Seth Rogen: Some ‘Superbad’ Jokes Were ‘Blatantly Homophobic’

Seth Rogen says that “under the lenses of new eras,” some of the jokes in his 2007 film Superbad border “on blatantly homophobic.”

Speaking with the Guardian during a promotional tour for Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, Rogen said:

“It’s funny looking at some movies we’ve made in the last 10 years under the lenses of new eras, new social consciousness. There’s for sure some stuff in our earlier movies — and even in our more recent movies — where even like a year later you’re like ‘Eh, maybe that wasn’t the greatest idea.’

“There are probably some jokes in ‘Superbad’ that are bordering on blatantly homophobic at times. They’re all in the voice of high school kids, who do speak like that, but I think we’d also be silly not to acknowledge that we also were, to some degree, glamorizing that type of language in a lot of ways.”

On Neighbours 2: Sorority Rising, Rogen said he attempted to address larger issues such as misogyny. “The Greek system seems a little sexist,” he said. “The sheer fact that the women and the men don’t have equal rights and opportunities I think by definition makes it sexist, so that’s something we talked a lot about while we were making the movie.”

Rolling Stones demand Donald Trump stop using their music: “‘The Rolling Stones have never given permission to the Trump campaign to use their songs and have requested that they cease all use immediately,’ a spokesperson for the legendary British band told TIME Wednesday. Trump has been known to play at least two other songs by the Rolling Stones at his rallies: ‘You Can’t Always Get What You Want,’ ‘Sympathy for the Devil’ and ‘Brown Sugar.’ A campaign volunteer told the New Yorker in February that Trump personally curated the playlist, which also includes Elton John and music from ‘Cats’ and ‘The Phantom of the Opera.’”

FAUX NEWS. Sean Hannity wants people to stop blaming him for Trump: “Now, those of you who have that analysis, I think it’s extremely shallow and, by the way, also predicated on this notion that, well, people are stupid, people were bamboozled. Sorry, I don’t buy that for one second.”

TEXAS. Attorney General Ken Paxton demands plan from Target to protect women and children in bathrooms: “It is possible that allowing men in women’s restrooms could lead to criminal and otherwise unwanted activity. As chief lawyer and law enforcement officer for the State of Texas, I ask that you provide the full text of Target’s safety policies regarding the protection of women and children from those who would use the cover of Target’s restroom policy for nefarious purposes.”

MEDIA. Ellen DeGeneres launches her own digital network: “Launched in partnership with the Warner Bros. Television Group, the network will offer an original slate of programming for multiple platforms, including content from YouTube superstar Tyler Oakley and the “Damn Daniel” Snapchat stars.” The popular on-air personality has become somewhat of a digital powerhouse in the last couple of years, building a huge following both on the show’s account and her own personal pages. She has amassed more than 1.1 billion total cross-platform views, according to a Tubular survey from November 2015.”

GOPRO. Incredible video of a rocket ascending to space: “On November 6th, 2015 UP Aerospace Inc. launched the 20-foot (6 meter) tall SL-10 rocket into near-space. Arctic sea ice near collapse? “So, just like the dissolution of the corals Pakalolo mentioned, the collapse of the seas ice is apparently 50 years ahead of its expected pace.  After the record low ice extent in 2012, I recall seeing someone predict an ice free day in Arctic ocean to happen before 2020.  This prediction was ridiculed.  There is not much laughter among the serious ice watchers right now.  The Greenland melt season has started early.  The rest of the Arctic is dropping ice extent fast, and it’s not usually until June that the melting really gets going.  Talk the last few years is how melt-ponding this  time of year prepares the ice for melting in July and August.  And how weather conditions play a big role in the melting season.  A cool, cloudy July and August can undo all of the melt-pond preconditioning from May and June.”

JUSTICE DEPT SAYS NC VIOLATING CIVIL RIGHTS ACT; COULD COST MILLION$: The U.S. Department of Justice is laying down the law, ruling yesterday that North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory’s discriminatory HB2 law, violates Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972. In a letter to McCrory, DOJ gives the governor until COB Monday to confirm “that the State will not comply with or implement HB2.” The state risks a lawsuit by the DOJ and loss of  $4.5 billion in federal public education funding. McCrory has signalled he may defy the Civil Rights Act. UNC President Margaret Spellings, who also received DOJ’s letter, must now decide whether to break with the flailing governor and chaos he has created — or comply with the Civil Rights Act and protect her students. HRC and Equality North Carolina are again calling on state leadership to stop hiding the ball and come clean to the public about the motivation behind HB2 and its hasty passage. • George Clooney called on NC’s governor and legislative leaders to fully repeal the state’s discriminatory HB2. In an email message yesterday, Clooney wrote, “…human rights, civil rights and equality must be for all and not just most.”
• Sporting a “Y’all means all” shirt before her Raleigh concert Tuesday night, Beyoncé shared a message of support, raising awareness of HB2 and crediting advocates “committed to being good and carrying on the message of equality.”

OXFORD, ALA., CITY COUNCIL … SOMETIMES IF YOU’RE FIRST, YOU’RE LAST: Oxford, Ala., which recently became the first municipality in the nation to pass a discriminatory law attacking the transgender community, quickly repealed the vile measure Wednesday at a special City Council meeting. Said HRC Alabama State Director Eva Walton Kendrick — one of many opponents filling the room during the 3-2 vote: “Throughout the country elected officials from both sides of the aisle, along with hundreds of business leaders and advocates throughout the country have resoundingly rejected these kinds of proposals, which only seek to demean and marginalize the transgender community.” HRC applauds the council’s decision to repeal the measure. Beyonce Speaks Out Against Anti-LGBT Law, Says “Y’all Means All”

As the world has surely learned by now, when life lobs lemons at Mrs. Beyoncé Knowles Carter she reflects and then releases a game-changing album filled with rage and pain. When word reached her royal ears about the injustice faced by trans folks in North Carolina who just want to use the rest room of the gender with which they identify, she didn’t go the Springsteen route and cancel a show in protest. She didn’t ape Dolly Parton by saying she’ll perform and address the discrimination from the concert stage. Bey donned a T-shirt emblazoned with a subtle message that touts inclusion for everyone (Y’all means all) and issued a statement that endorses Equality NC as part of her Bey GOOD foundation, which encourages the BeyHive to be more charitable and fight against social injustice.

Here’s the Queen Bey’s full statement on the issue:

North Carolina has been drawing the attention of the masses for new legislation that blocks cities and local governments from passing anti-discrimination measures that could protect gay and transgender people.

It all began earlier this year when Charlotte passed a decree expanding North Carolina’s anti-discrimination laws allowing LGBT people protection in places of public accommodation. The ordinance, which was set to go into effect on April 1^st, would allow transgender people to use the bathrooms of the gender they identify as, amongst other progressive rights.

Rather than accepting the progression in LGBT rights, that same night, legislators returned to the state house to overrule the ordinance that would ban discrimination against LGBT people. At a special session, North Carolina’s General Assembly proposed and passed the House Bill 2 (HB2) — what has now come to be known as the “Bathroom Bill.”

As The Formation World Tour makes its stop in the Tar Heel state in the midst of such a controversial time, we think it is important for us to bring attention to those who are committed to being good and carrying on the message of equality in this core of controversy.

Among the many organizations doing the good work to get this bill overturned, there is Equality NC, a local organization dedicated to securing equal rights and justice for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) North Carolinians.

Construction Worker Fired After Being Caught on Video Defacing Pro-LGBT Mural: WATCH

A construction worker was promptly fired after being caught on video defacing a pro-LGBT mural in Jacksonville on Wednesday.

Two local artists had painted the mural in support of the city’s embattled Human Rights Ordinance outside the old Peterson’s 5 & Dime store in the LGBT-friendly Five Points neighborhood on Tuesday.

“You’ve been sharing bathrooms with transgender people your whole life,” it read, above the hashtag #JaxHRO.

The building reportedly is being renovated by owner Steve Williams, an arts advocate who endorsed the mural and supports the HRO. After cell phone video of the vandalism went viral on social media, Williams asked the construction foreman to immediately terminate the guilty employee.

“Anyone who is incapable of respecting ALL humans are NOT welcome on my property,” Williams wrote on Facebook, according to a report from Metro Jacksonville.

Jimmy Midyette of the Jacksonville Coalition for Equality added: “I believe the recent stories from North Carolina, about Target, and our own HRO make this very relevant in Jacksonville.  Transgender people should be free to use the restroom of their choice and not be subjected to harassment.”

The City Council was set to consider the proposed HRO this spring, but it was ultimately tabled. Jacksonville remains the second-largest city in the US without an LGBT-inclusive nondiscrimination ordinance, behind Houston.

Beware! Colorado Lawmaker Warns That Gay People Will Demand to Have Sex in Your Guest Bedroom: VIDEO

Devil-obsessed Colorado House of Representatives embarrassment Gordon Klingenschmitt has the distinction of being one of the most ridiculous right-wing loons working in the U.S. at the moment. Whereas the likes of Linda Harvey and Scott Lively are dangerous, Klingenschmitt – despite suggesting that gay people are on a controlled mission to recruit children – comes off with the whiff of comedy gold. For the love of god, he believes that hurricane Gordon was a direct sign of support from the Christian deity itself.

Continuing his special line of Satan-based humor, Klingenschmitt honestly thinks that gay people are driven by a demonic “spirit of persecution” that makes them attack Christians and “demand to have sex in your guest bedroom.”

Speaking on his hysterical “Pray In Jesus Name” program, Klingenschmitt said:

“There is a spirit of persecution that is coming out of this homosexual movement and it’s not enough that they get weddings in their own private churches, they want to come to your church, they want to come to your business, they might even come to your home — if you are a bed and breakfast owner, they’ll come right into your home and demand to have sex in your guest bedroom and there’s nothing you can do, they say, to deny them service because they have a right to violate your freedom.

“That is an evil spirit of persecution. There are also evil spirits influencing them to come after the church and we’ve got to stand up, not necessarily against the humans, we’ve got to stand up against Satan, who is inside of them.”
