Ross Mathews Responds to Twitter Feud with ‘Bully Eichner’ — VIDEO

The Colton Haynes vs. Noah Galvin war is so two weeks ago…
In pop culture’s latest gay-vs-gay feud, Billy Eichner, host of truTV’s Billy on the Street, took on fellow comedian Ross Mathews and accused him of ripping off his show.
It all started when Eichner saw a CapitalOne commercial featuring Mathews, a judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race and host of Fox’s Hollywood Today Live, where he interviewed random people on the street in the same way that Eichner does it on Billy on the Street.
While that type of interview — man-on-the-street — is nothing new to TV and it’s been used in late-night talk shows for years, the style was indeed very similar.
Eichner was furious, and not very gracious about it:
Hey @CapitalOne & @helloross – don’t steal from my fucking show. This is stolen intellectual property. FUCK YOU. #GoodbyeRoss
— billy eichner (@billyeichner) June 17, 2016
@billyeichner Are you serious? I’ve been doing man on the street interviews since 2001. I’ve never even seen your stuff. Bless your heart.
— Ross Mathews (@helloross) June 17, 2016
.@helloross Perhaps u didn’t but ur new friends @CapitalOne certainly did as they reached out to my agents about this campaign. HAPPY PRIDE.
— billy eichner (@billyeichner) June 17, 2016
Mathews claimed he had never even watched Billy on the Street before:
Just googled @billyeichner to watch some of his stuff for the first time. He’s funny! Wish he was nice, too.
— Ross Mathews (@helloross) June 17, 2016
Life is short and I will not be getting into a Twitter feud with ROSS THE INTERN of all people. Here’s a fun video: t.co/QU7bEKSjhs
— billy eichner (@billyeichner) June 17, 2016
No feud. Just responding to you. I came before you. I agree you’re funnier, but you’re also a dick. ❤️, Mr. Mathews t.co/5UGykcsEqt
— Ross Mathews (@helloross) June 17, 2016
.@billyeichner Glad your hissy fit is over. We should be building each other up, not tearing one another down. All good. ❤️🌈
— Ross Mathews (@helloross) June 18, 2016
Apparently, not all was good yet.
On Monday, Mathews spent three and a half minutes on Hollywood Today Live explaining to his co-hosts what had happened:
“On Friday, somebody tweeted me who claims I ripped him off,” he said. “Bully Eichner” from the “Bully on the Street” show.
Mathews, who first became known as “Ross the Intern” at The Tonight Show with Jay Leno in 2001, said that he’d been doing those man-on-the-street interviews for years, so he couldn’t have ripped Billy on the Street off.
“You may do it better than me, but I did it before you,” he said adding that Eichner “did not like that and he went on this all-caps Kanye-style rant at me.”
Mathews said that he’s “all about positivity, but if you come at me wrong, I’m just going to have to fill you in that you need new britches because you might be too big for yours.”
But of course Mathews doesn’t want any drama: “This is not about negativity. Please don’t go after him,” he told the audience. “This needs to be done.”
Even though he did bring it up a few days after it’d already died on Twitter.

Here’s support for #teamBilly:
@CapitalOne @helloross Do you love Billy on the Street? Do you wish it was turned into a shitty commercial? Have we got news for you!
— Dan Travers (@Dan_Travers) June 17, 2016
@CapitalOne @helloross Are you paying @billyeichner royalties for (poorly) ripping off his shtick?
— 3CallFinagle (@3CallFinagle) June 17, 2016
@CapitalOne @helloross Awful. Sorry guys, you are no @billyeichner . Try again.
— Vickie Mcgowan (@zuzuspetals2370) June 17, 2016
@CapitalOne @helloross If you were going to blatantly rip-off @billyeichner u could’ve at least made it funny. Y not just ask him to do it?
— Agoraphobic Angie (@AgoraphobicAng) June 18, 2016
@CapitalOne hey how about you don’t steal billy eichner’s bit for your next commercial? #BillyOnTheStreet
— P M (@mal17pm) June 18, 2016
@CapitalOne @helloross Ripped off Billy. And it was shit.
— Jason Cook (@IncookieCook) June 17, 2016
Here’s support for #TeamRoss:
@billyeichner oh honey no.
— Andy Cohen (@Andy) June 17, 2016
@billyeichner Um @helloross was doing this kind of stuff back on Leno honey. This formula has been around for decades … gurl chill!
— Dart BB (@dartbb82) June 18, 2016
@billyeichner @helloross @CapitalOne so you invented interviewing people? I don’t get it lol.
— Branden Hampton (@CEO) June 17, 2016
@billyeichner @helloross GIRL ROSS LITERALLY STARTED DOING THIS BEFORE YOU WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? CHECK👏🏻YO👏🏻SELF👏🏻
— Lil’Capibara (@HeyBun) June 18, 2016
.@helloross @billyeichner Love Billy’s segments but not the false sense of entitlement and lack of humility. This was a stretch. #TeamRoss

Cavaliers, Anton Yelchin, Havana, Tim Cook, Peter Thiel, Rupert Everett, Zayn Malik: NEWS
TIM COOK. Apple CEO holding fundraiser for Paul Ryan: “Cook is hosting the fundraiser on his own accord, as Apple does not have a corporate political action committee like Facebook, Google and other tech giants in Silicon Valley. Still, the move reflects Apple’s desire to court Republican and Democratic officeholders alike, even at a time when it has serious reservations about Trump, the GOP’s presumptive presidential nominee.”
PETER THIEL. Gay billionaire remains on Facebook board: “Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s founder and CEO, allowed for re-electing billionaire Peter Thiel to the company’s board of directors at an annual shareholder meeting on Monday, despite revelations in recent weeks about Thiel’s legal efforts to destroy Gawker and his role as a delegate for Donald Trump.”
HIDING LITTLE. Tom Hiddleston strips down to his undies: “I’m here to tell you that my butt is not dangerous. And there are many, many more dangerous things that people are happy to broadcast. I don’t know what that says about the world we live in, but it probably says something.”
RAYS OF LIGHT. Tampa Bay Rays raise $300,000 for Orlando shooting victims: “All tickets were $5 and 100% of the proceeds went to the Pulse Victims Fund. The attendance was more than 40,000 for a team that draws 16,000 fans on average.”
HAVANA. Gay bars hold their own against Grindr. “A dedicated gay bar — as opposed to one with, say, a night devoted to gay clientele — debuted here in 2013, the first ever in Havana. But its closure last October was met with a collective roll-with-the-punches shrug. More places catering to gays are coming, joining a dozen weekly parties and Mi Cayito, a beach popular with gays. And the Malecón itself is too vital a scene to be shut down. Gay clubs frequently swell with the roaring titular anthem of a Jacob Forever pop song: ‘Until the Malecón runs dry!’”
LAS VEGAS. March on The Strip tonight for Orlando. “We will meet on the SW corner of Spring Mountain (strip side) at 7:00 pm, and have a peaceful walk to the corner of LV Blvd and Harmon.”
MALCOLM TURNBULL. Australian PM vows to hold marriage referendum this year: “The country holds elections on July 2 with the latest opinion poll showing the ruling Liberal-led coalition and Labor neck-and-neck. Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, who is well-known for his support of gay marriage, is in favour of a referendum on the issue instead of a parliamentary vote. But Labor has hardened its language against a public vote, in what commentators said was a strategic move to set up the issue as a clear choice on polling day.”
NBA FINALS. Celebs react to the Cleveland Cavaliers’ first-ever NBA title.
SPACEX. Pride.
ANTON YELCHIN. Grand Cherokee jeep which killed him was under recall: “The Jeep Grand Cherokee model reportedly involved in the freak accident that killed “Star Trek” actor Anton Yelchin on Saturday was recalled just months ago after a problem with its park function caused hundreds of crashes and dozens of injuries. Yelchin, 27, died Saturday night after his SUV rolled backward in the driveway of his Los Angeles home and pinned him between a brick pillar mailbox and security gate.”
CONDRAGULATIONS. The cast of the new season of RuPaul’s All Stars Drag Race has been announced.
MARIAH VS ARIANA. Can’t we all just get along?
MALE MODEL MONDAY. Gabriel Loureiro.
UNION JACK. TinyCo’s mobile game Marvel’s Avengers Academy introduces gay character: “The game handles the coming out in a straight-forward manner, and it is handled very well indeed, with characters being accepting and positive. It’s also not something that comes and just goes away either, as it is also suggested that Union Jack has a crush on school mischief-maker, Loki.”
RUPERT EVERETT. Actor warns parents against making rash decisions about their child’s trans status: “I really wanted to be a girl. Thank God the world of now wasn’t then, because I’d be on hormones and I’d be a woman. After I was 15 I never wanted to be a woman again.”
MONDAY MALIK. Zayn in Paper magazine.

‘The Fosters’ Addresses Gun Violence, ‘Suited’ Tackles Trans Tailors and More TV This Week

Check out our guide to TV this week, and make sure you’re catching the big premieres, crucial episodes and the stuff you won’t admit you watch when no one’s looking.
Blended-family drama The Fosters return tonight for a fourth season with a powerful episode. The premiere and second episode of the season focus on a school shooting and its aftermath. The storyline was written and filmed long before the tragedy in Orlando, but recent events have impacted the show, which centers on a blended family led by two lesbian mothers. Actresses Cierra Ramirez and Sherri Saum will appear in a PSA before the premiere tonight at 8 p.m. Eastern on Freeform.
If you’re looking for something a bit more brainless (and blonde and Botoxed), the ladies of The Real Housewives of Orange County are back tonight at 9 pm. Eastern on Bravo. The housewives that launched a thousand screaming, wine-soaked luncheons kick off their 11th season featuring returning cast members Tamra, Heather Dubrow and the OG herself, Vicki Gunvalson.
HBO’s latest dapper documentary shines a spotlight on a Brooklyn-based shop that tailors custom-made clothes for trans individuals. Suited, produced by Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner, tells the story of Bindle & Keep and its customers as they work together to create an outward expression that’s a perfect fit. The film premieres tonight at 9 p.m. Eastern.
Yas, kween! USA’s new summer crime drama, Queen of the South, gives us a steely, sexy drug queenpin and possibly our new favorite show for the summer. Based on the novel La Reina Del Sur, the show, premiering Thursday at 10 p.m. Eastern, stars Brazilian actress Alice Braga as Teresa Mendoza, a sort of fictional Scarface.
It probably won’t match the epic scale of last night’s episode, but the season finale of Game of Thrones Sunday at 9 p.m. on HBO certainly still has some tricks up its sleeve. It’s the trial of Cersei (and the handsome homo Ser Loras). Expect more twists, turns and bodies than an episode of How To Get Away With Murder.
What are you watching this week on TV?

Broadway's Finest to perform 'What the World Needs Now is Love' on NBC to mark Orlando tragedy
Broadway’s finest musical artists will be performing an updated version of “What the World Needs Now is Love” for the first time tomorrow on NBC’s Maya and Marty. The airing will mark the first non-studio performance of the benefit single, with appearances by over forty artists, including Tituss Burgess, Whoopi Goldberg, Michael Cerveris, and Sean Hayes.
The song, which covers Burt Bacharach and Hal David’s original melody, is the product of Broadway for Orlando, a charitable initiative brought about by the collective energy of the Broadway community to honor the victims of the Orlando shooting at Pulse nightclub. Featuring artists such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Wayne Brady, Gloria Estefan, Idina Menzel, and Lin-Manuel Miranda, the recording is available on Broadway Records and iTunes with all proceeds going to the LGBT Center of Central Florida.
NBC’s decision to host the performance of the charitable single comes in the midst of other initiatives taken by the music world to support the families and communities shaken by the Orlando tragedy. Most recently, GLAAD partnered with recording artists Imagine Dragons and Nate Ruess for the ALL IS ONE Orlando Unity Concert taking place this Wednesday June 22 to benefit the OneOrlando Fund. To purchase tickets, click here and don’t forget to tune into Maya and Marty at 10/9c tomorrow night.

Judge Denies Philly Gay Basher Kathryn Knott’s Early Release Request

Dear convicted gay basher Kathryn Knott: in the words of our favorite lesbian Suze Orman: you are denied.
A Philadelphia judge has denied her request for early release based on good behavior.
The men who participated in the bashing, Kevin Harrigan and Philip Williams, avoided jail time with a plea that included community service and probation, but Knott decided to try her luck with a trial. Bad move.
After being convicted of simple assault, conspiracy and reckless endangerment in the attack of two gay men in Philadelphia in 2014 and sentenced to 5-10 months behind bars, Knott faced a civil suit from the victims and was unsuccessful at getting released in order to record an anti-bullying PSA and move on.
Now’s she’s definitely not getting time off for good behavior. Philadelphia Gay News writes:
An attorney for Knott submitted a petition June 10 for an “earned time, good time” release, which allows petitioners to be released before the minimum time limit on their sentence if they have behaved as model inmates.
Knott’s attorney Bill Brennan told PGN she’s been a “model inmate,” which is why he filed the request:
“She’s been performing her duties — cleaning toilets — and has been a model inmate. Inmates are given this reward, if you will, where the minimum sentence is slightly reduced and they have the opportunity to be released slightly early with ‘earned time, good time.’”
Unfortunately for Knott, the judge denied the request. However, Brennan intends to revisit it once she meets her 5-month minimum sentence:
“I’m cautiously optimistic that she will not be singled out for any reason because it really is the norm that, if you’ve behaved yourself, you are eligible for release at the minimum.”
We’re not really into kicking someone when they’re down, but unfortunately Knott was. Here’s to hoping that she’s learned her lesson once she completes her minimum sentence…and no less.

You’ll guess the twist a mile away, but that doesn’t make it any less adorable.
