Les Souffleurs was one of the first gay bars I went to in Paris (2016, 2018). I still remember feeling out of place with all the French chatter dinning about as I nursed a pint of beer. That tension broke loose when I heard a familiar song start up on the speaker, Radiohead’s “Man of War.” I knew then that a bar playing music like this would be filled with my people, even if I didn’t know the language. Everything suddenly didn’t feel so strange. I took my sisters here in 2022 on our first night in Europe for that vacation. Still remember dancing in the basement bar, though the music was more upbeat and a little more frenetic. As I’m planning this upcoming trip, I was disappointed to see the word “CLOSED” next to the bar’s name on Google. I was hoping for another fun time with friends… will need to find another spot to fill that void, if that’s even possible.
