He’s really into kink, but his fiancé isn’t… so now what?!

A 32-year-old man says he’s engaged to the most wonderful guy in the world who he truly can’t wait to marry one day, there’s just one teensy tiny problem…

“My interests trend to the kinkier side of the spectrum, while my fiancé is much more ‘traditional’ in bed,” he writes in a letter to Daniel Mallory Ortberg over at Slate.

And it’s causing some tension in their otherwise great relationship.

“My fiancé has experimented with some things that I’ve brought up, and he truly has been a good sport,” the man writes. “But it’s obvious it’s not really for him, and that comes across during these sessions.”

Despite trying his best, the fiancé just isn’t into the kinky stuff and, the man says, “it makes me a bit embarrassed.” Other than that, though, their sex life is “great.”

Now, here’s where it gets tricky…

The man explains that his friends are planning a trip to San Francisco to attend the Folsom Street Fair next year.

“I have never been and would really love to go,” he says. “The issue is that I don’t want to go with my fiancé.”

If his fiancé were into kink, he would love for him to tag along, but he isn’t, and so the man feels “as if I would constantly be worrying about him having fun and feeling too weird. And that would ruin the experience for me.”

He wonders: “How do I talk to him about the fact that I would prefer to have this experience without him? Is that even a good idea, or am I being selfish and prioritizing my desires over his feelings?”

In his response, Ortberg tells the man it’s time for the guys to have a serious conversation about what being a “good sport” truly is.

“Obviously you don’t want him to just put on a mask and power through something he actively dislikes,” Ortberg writes, “but if his good-faith effort to participate in your kink still makes it really obvious he’s totally turned off, then … it’s time for him to take a long, restorative break from participating.”

As for Folsom Street Fair, Ortberg assures him that there’s still plenty of time to figure that out, so don’t rush anything. When it comes to kink, in general, it’s always best to take things slow.

“Since it’s still a year off, you don’t have to rush into having the Folsom conversation with your fiancé right away,” he advises, “although you certainly can start establishing ground rules about how/when/if you might want to engage with your kink without him.”

“Mostly, though, I hope you know that it’s not selfish to want to stop playing together because you’re not feeling it. Don’t force yourself to push through lackluster and alienating kink encounters just because you think you ought to be grateful for your fiancé’s efforts.”

George Michael’s sister slams Elton John’s claim that George was uncomfortable being gay

The sister of singer George Michael has spoken out against Michael’s longtime friend and fellow out gay singer Elton John after remarks John made suggesting George Michael was never comfortable with his sexuality.

Appearing on the TV show The Talk, John spoke out about his late friend, noting he was “so uncomfortable in his skin about being gay even though he said he wasn’t.” Michael had come out to friends as bisexual at age 19 and came out publicly in 1999.

Now George Michael’s sister Melanie Panayiotou, 55, tells The Big Issue that George Michael had no problem with his sexuality, referring to him as “my ‘very-proud-to-be-gay’ brother, contrary to what you may have read recently.”

In interviews following his coming out, George Michael admitted that he dated both men and women and struggled with his sexuality while part of the pop group Wham! in the 1980s. He also feared that with AIDS rampant at the time, and with his mother still living, that he would bring disgrace to his career if he ever came out. Following his 1998 arrest for propositioning a man in a public bathroom, and his subsequent coming out a year later, George Michael confessed to suffering from depression after leaving Wham! over fears that he may be outed. That said, in the years that followed, Michael never shied away from discussing his love life or sexuality in interviews.

Pete Buttigieg Takes Lead in Iowa for First Time in New Poll

Pete Buttigieg Takes Lead in Iowa for First Time in New Poll

Pete Buttigieg leads the Democratic field for the first time in a new poll released by Monmouth University, though the pollster says voters are not solid about their choices.

IOWA DEM CAUCUS POLL: #2020Dem preference:
1st choice (1st+2nd combined)

22% (37) @PeteButtigieg
19% (29) @JoeBiden
18% (35) @EWarren
13% (25) @BernieSanders
5% (14) @AmyKlobuchar
3% (9) @KamalaHarris
3% (6) @TomSteyer
3% (4) @AndrewYang#IowaCaucus t.co/XOFMAFXkxc

— MonmouthPoll (@MonmouthPoll) November 12, 2019

Writes Monmouth: “Buttigieg has gained ground among every major demographic group since the summer. His support stands at 26% among voters who describe themselves as moderate or conservative, 23% among those who are somewhat liberal, and 15% among those who are very liberal. He is currently in the top tier for both women (24%, to 22% for Biden, and 20% for Warren), and men (20%, to 19% for Sanders and 16% for Warren).  Looking at the poll results by age, Buttigieg (26%) is nipping at Biden’s heels (29%) among voters age 65 and older. He has a slight advantage among those age 50 to 64 (24%, to 17% each for Biden and Warren), and is competitive among voters under the age of 50 (19%, to 24% for Warren and 19% for Sanders).  Buttigieg leads among college graduates (24%, to 21% for Warren and 15% for Biden) and is in the top tier among those without a college degree (21%, to 21% for Biden, 18% for Sanders, and 16% for Warren).”

Monmouth adds: “Buttigieg’s gains since the summer have been across the board, with increasing support coming from nearly every demographic group.  Regardless, less than one-third of likely caucusgoers say that they are firmly set on their choice of candidate and most would not be too disappointed if they had to switch their support.  The poll also finds that Mike Bloomberg receives a chilly reception among Hawkeye State Democrats as he considers whether to make a late entry into the nomination contest.”

“The Monmouth University Poll was conducted by telephone from November 7 to 11, 2019 with 451 Iowa voters who are likely to attend the Democratic presidential caucuses in February 2020, out of 966 registered Democrats and unaffiliated voters who were contacted for the poll.  The question results in this release have a margin of error of +/- 4.6 percentage points.”
