Seth Meyers Questions Why Trump is Calling Kim Jong Un ‘Rocket Man’: ‘That’s a Cool Nickname!’ – WATCH

In last night’s Closer Look segment, Seth Meyers looked at Donald Trump’s recent fondness for referring to Kim Jong Un as “Rocket Man”, a moniker he even used in his speech to the United Nations.

Said Meyers: “Why are you calling him Rocket Man? That’s not a diss, that’s a cool nickname. You’re making him sound like a character from Top Gun.”

Meyers later objected those who characterized Robert Mueller’s Russia probe as someone who is going after an “organized crime syndicate” because you can’t call the Trump administration “organized.”

Meyers also looked at the latest Republican attempt to repeal and replace Obamacare, Trump’s latest dealmaking with Senate Democrat Chuck Schumer, and Trump’s insistence that we need to be “proactive and nasty” to beat ISIS.

Some Good News from Key West: Island House is ‘Safe and Sound’

Some Good News from Key West: Island House is ‘Safe and Sound’

key west island house

Key West’s Island House resort has been a longtime supporter of the work we do here at Towleroad, so we were very concerned about how they would emerge after Hurricane Irma left a path of destruction through the Florida Keys.

It’s lovely to hear some good news from them, which we got yesterday in a press release:

Feeling humbled by our good luck, we’re happy to announce that the Island House, and the island of Key West, are safe and sound after Hurricane Irma. The outpouring of concern and support we’ve received has sustained us through all of this, and we cannot thank our friends and guests enough for their caring sentiments. With a few days of tree cleanup, a top-to-bottom spray wash of our buildings, and the safe return of or beloved staff, Island House will be good as new to welcome back our guests.

As was announced by Monroe County officials, Key West will ‘officially’ be open for tourists again by October 20th. At that time, our guests can expect the full Island House experience to be at their fingertips, and to enjoy the quintessential Key West vacation.  If you have a reservation for arrival after October 20, you can assume that it is secure and you can plan accordingly. If you have a reservation scheduled to arrive prior to October 20th, we ask that you call us directly for additional information. We can catch you up on all of the progress that has been made in Key West, and what you can expect as far as amenities and activities that will be available at that time. And, if you had a trip cancelled because we were closed, please call us so we can talk about options for you to rebook your trip.

Rest assured, Island House is alive and well, and we are thrilled to be able to get back to doing what we do best!  Including amidst other things, endless sunshine, cool cocktails, palm trees, water and of course, the fun loving boyz of Island House.

We’d like to thank Island House for their ongoing support and encourage everyone to think about a vacation to Key West this fall and winter as I’m sure the whole island could use the support!

Mueller’s Probe of Paul Manafort’s Potential Crimes Goes Back More Than 11 Years

Mueller’s Probe of Paul Manafort’s Potential Crimes Goes Back More Than 11 Years

Paul Manafort

Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into former Trump campaign chair Paul Manafort’s possible crimes goes back until at least 2006, CNN reports:

The FBI’s warrant for a July search of Manafort’s Alexandria, Virginia, home said the investigation centered on possible crimes committed as far back as January 2006, according to a source briefed on the investigation.

The broad time frame is the latest indication that Mueller’s team is going well beyond Russian meddling during the campaign as part of its investigation of Trump campaign associates. Manafort, who has been the subject of an FBI investigation for three years, has emerged as a focal point for Mueller.

CNN adds:

Justice Department prosecutors concluded last year that there wasn’t enough evidence to bring charges against Manafort or any of the other US subjects in the Ukraine probe, according to sources briefed on the investigation. A spokesman for the special counsel declined to comment.

Mueller’s team could be facing a deadline if they want to bring charges arising from older tax returns: The six-year statute of limitations for Manafort’s taxes filed in 2011 expires October 15. They already may be too late for the years prior to 2011.

But the government could have more time depending on the exact nature of the charges that it wants to bring.
