Rachel Maddow Puts Jeff Sessions on ‘Resignation Watch’ After Trump Slam: VIDEO

Rachel Maddow Puts Jeff Sessions on ‘Resignation Watch’ After Trump Slam: VIDEO

Last night’s stunning New York Times interview with Donald Trump in which he publicly trashed Attorney General Jeff Sessions and said he wouldn’t have appointed him if he knew Sessions was going to recuse himself from the Russia probe has folks wondering if Sessions will resign.

The NYT reported:

“Jeff Sessions takes the job, gets into the job, recuses himself, which frankly I think is very unfair to the president,” he added. “How do you take a job and then recuse yourself? If he would have recused himself before the job, I would have said, ‘Thanks, Jeff, but I’m not going to take you.’ It’s extremely unfair — and that’s a mild word — to the president.”

Mr. Trump also faulted Mr. Sessions for his testimony during Senate confirmation hearings when Mr. Sessions said he had not met with any Russians even though he had met at least twice with Ambassador Sergey I. Kislyak. “Jeff Sessions gave some bad answers,” the president said. “He gave some answers that were simple questions and should have been simple answers, but they weren’t.”

Said Rachel Maddow who put Sessions and perhaps several other members of Trump’s administration, on resignation watch:

“In normal times, we would expect an official criticized this way by the president to resign before the evening is over. That said, these are not normal times.”

Watch:

CNN reports that Sessions has no plans to resign:

A Justice Department spokeswoman declined to comment to CNN about the President’s remarks regarding Sessions. But a source familiar with his thinking said Sessions has no intention of stepping down as attorney general in the wake of Trump’s comments.

Rhode Island Becomes 10th State to Ban Harmful Gay Conversion Therapy for Minors

Rhode Island Becomes 10th State to Ban Harmful Gay Conversion Therapy for Minors

Gina Raimondo

Rhode Island’s Governor Gina Raimondo has signed a bill into law banning harmful gay conversion therapy for minors, making the state the 10th in the U.S. to do so. Washington D.C. also bans the practice.

Writes HRC:

Rhode Island is now the eleventh jurisdiction — and the fourth state so far this year — to enact these crucially important protections. Connecticut, California, Nevada, New Jersey, the District of Columbia, Oregon, Illinois, Vermont, New York, and New Mexico all have laws or regulations protecting youth from this abusive practice. A growing number of municipalities have also enacted similar protections, including cities in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Florida.

“Conversion therapy,” sometimes referred to as “sexual orientation change efforts” or “reparative therapy,” encompasses a range of dangerous practices that seek to change an individual’s sexual orientation or gender identity or expression. These practices are based on the false premise that being LGBTQ is a mental illness that needs to be cured — a theory that has been rejected for decades by every major medical and mental health organization.
