Google Pledges $1 Million for Stonewall Riots Story Project
Google has announced its intention to set up a story project to the tune of $1 million to record an on-the-ground history accounting of the seminal Stonewall riots of 1969.
The Web giant’s “digital experience” will be an oral history featuring interviews with New Yorkers who were on the front lines in Greenwich Village in the summer of 1969.
The project is aimed for completion by June 28, 2019, the 50th anniversary of the riots.
The impromptu uprising outside the Stonewall Inn on Christopher Street against police harassment is remembered as a watershed moment in the push for LGBTQ equality.
“I remember the Stonewall riot — whatever you want to call it — I remember the debate, I remember the time, and it’s hard to go back there. I can tell you, you don’t want to go back there either.” said Eric Schmidt, executive chairman of Alphabet, Google’s parent company.
(Until then, you can always tide yourself over with a drunk history of the event courtesy of Comedy Central and Alexandra Grey.)

Former NFL Lineman Ryan O’Callaghan Comes Out as Gay: WATCH
Ryan O’Callaghan, who played five seasons in the NFL for the New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs, came out of the closet today in an interview with Outsports’ Cyd Zeigler.
In the lengthy interview, O’Callaghan, who says he’s very happy now, talks of his plans to kill himself after football because of his loneliness in the closet, a loneliness that led him to drug abuse.
Said O’Callaghan: “I was abusing painkillers, no question. It helped with the pain of the injuries, and with the pain of being gay. I just didn’t worry about being gay when I took the Vicodin. I just didn’t worry.”
He added: “As long as there are people killing themselves because they are gay, there is a reason for people like me to share my story and try to help. People need to understand that we are everywhere. We’re your sons, your daughters, your teammates, your neighbors. And honestly, even some of your husbands and wives. You just don’t know it yet…It’s not always easy being honest, but I can tell you it’s much easier and more enjoyable being yourself and not living a lie.”

Reading the Far Right: Blaming Liberals for Violence
Certain elements of the right wasted no time in blaming all liberals for last week’s shooting at a congressional baseball practice.

The fervidly antigay “March For Marriage” took place on June 17. Guess how many people turned up.
They may have included cow skulls and tumbleweeds in their final headcount.
