Ross Cameron is a conservative former Australian MP for Parramatta who earned a slew of dubious headlines this week after a homophobic speech he gave to Sydney’s right-wing Q Society surfaced.

He’s also currently employed by Sky as the host of a political show, and he found himself at the mercy of a colleague who wasn’t willing to let him off the hook about the speech.

Not that the speech is defensible in any way. In it, he referred to the Sydney Morning Herald newspaper as the “Sydney Morning Homosexual” and then claims the Liberal Party is “basically a gay club.”

“I don’t mind that they are gay,” he adds. “I just wish, like Hadrian, they would build a wall. ”

To give a sense of exactly what kind of event this was, a ring-wing cartoonist made the following “joke”:

“I can’t stand Muslims… [but] they are not all bad, they do chuck pillow-biters off buildings.”

That’s why his colleague, television host Janine Perrett, went after him on live television.

After prodding Cameron to explain his speech, he said, “I gave a very pro-gay speech in which I said that gays have been associated with the creative class since the beginning of history.”

Related: “Girl, He Hit The Pole” Is The Best News Interview You’ll See Today — Or Ever!

“But it was derogatory,” Perrett said. “Wasn’t it? You weren’t giving them a good rap.”

“I’ll accept it was a gag but I don’t regard it as anti-gay,” Cameron responded. “I would say that I didn’t make a single, if you go through my remarks, I don’t see a single sentence of my remarks that is critical of gays.”

“What I object to is the Sydney Morning Herald taking the view that the vast sweep of Australians are homophobic, racist, rednecks.”

When Perrett asked whether he’ll issue an apology, Cameron said the media took his remarks “out of context.”

Then he added, “If the reporting of these comments has caused someone to feel a greater sense of isolation over their attraction, then I very sincerely apologize.”

“That was the worst apology I have ever heard,” Perrett shot back. “So if they weren’t reported, then you wouldn’t apologize?”

“I don’t accept… if you read my speech, it was in defense of dissent,” Cameron said.

“You knew this was going to come out publicly,” Perrett said. “You can’t just use the Donald Trump ‘locker room talk’ defense.”

“I regard that as one of the strengths of the argument,” Cameron said.

Rosie O’Donnell gives her profile pic a Steve Bannon makeover and it’s hilarious and terrifying

When asked by a fan on Twitter earlier this week if she would ever consider playing Steven Bannon on SNL, Rosie O’Donnell replied:

@calvininsf – i am here to serve – alec has trump – melissa has spice – i would need a few days to prepare – so if called – i will be ready

— ROSIE (@Rosie) February 7, 2017

This got the rumor mill going. Then yesterday, Rosie changed her official Twitter picture to a photoshopped image of her face on Steve Bannon’s head, and her followers quickly took notice:

Oh, my, GOSH! @Rosie would OWN a Steve Bannon skit! SNL needs to make this happen and soon! ?? t.co/LevMAEInXn

We’ve already seen Alec Baldwin play Donald “Easy D” Trump and Melissa McCarthy do a frighteningly authentic Sean Spicer. We’re pretty sure Trump’s sworn nemesis would make an excellent Bannon.

Baldwin is set to host this weekend’s episode and he promised it would be yuge and a real “big deal.” We’re looking forward to seeing if it will include Ms. O’Donnell. Almost as much as we’re looking forward to seeing Donald Trump’s inevitable 3 AM Twitter meltdown over it.

Deeply unqualified Education Secretary Betsy DeVos was physically blocked by protesters at the entrance to a DC school.

“She does not represent anything that they stand for,” yelled one protester.

Another shouted: “She’s giving money to senators and buying her way into the position. You should be so proud of yourself. Go back! Shame! Shame! Shame!”

DeVos eventually got inside.

The Washington Post has more:

The demonstration was a sign that DeVos, who took office this week, remains a polarizing figure for many of the parents and teachers she seeks to serve.

DeVos was at the Jefferson Middle School Academy in Southwest Washington at about 10 a.m., according to two people who said they shook her hand inside the building. The event was closed to the media. It was her first visit to a public K-12 school since she was sworn in Tuesday.

Shortly after 10 a.m., several dozen members of the Washington Teachers Union, parents and other activists had gathered in front of the school.

The LGBT anti-bullying video that got a North Carolina teacher suspended

The LGBT anti-bullying video that got a North Carolina teacher suspended

A teacher in North Carolina has returned to the classroom after being suspended for showing students an anti-bullying video.

Imagine if straight children were bullied the way LGBTQ kids are, what would that look like, and would it change how you view homophobia?

Related: Teen’s antigay rant shows the bigotry LGBTQ youth face every day

That question is at the center of the brilliant short film “Love is All You Need” by Kim Rocco Shields, made in 2012. The video has over four million views on YouTube, and ends with the bullied child slitting her wrists.

Kimberly Fernetti played the film for her class at North Lincoln High School, drawing complaints from several parents, who called the superintendent’s office.

Fernetti was suspended while school officials investigated the situation.

“I think it’s a great message to get out in the school,” one student told WSOC-TV. “I personally have dealt with bullying, so I think it’s good to get the point across that ‘Hey, it’s not OK to pick on somebody.’”

A family member of another student agreed.

“I don’t think it was vulgar or anything. I think it’s better to be aware and to know the possibility of what kids’ actions could do,” they said.

According to a new report from student advocacy group GLSEN, called “Teasing to Torment: School Climate Revisited,” LGBTQ students in middle and high school have lower grades, attend class less regularly, and are less likely to graduate as compared to their heterosexual and cisgender peers.

The bullying and harassment can have a lifelong emotional impact, the report found.

North Carolina has been at the center of the LGBTQ rights battle after passing a discriminatory law, House Bill 2 (HB2), which invalidated non-discrimination ordinances passed by cities and municipalities and requires transgender individuals to use the restrooms and locker rooms matching the gender on their birth certificate in government-owned buildings.

“Love is All You Need” also caused controversy in 2015, when a teacher in Kansas was forced out of his job after playing it, although he was later reinstated.

Donald Trump Blasts 9th Circuit While Watching ‘Morning Joe’, Citing Article That Supports Ruling

Donald Trump Blasts 9th Circuit While Watching ‘Morning Joe’, Citing Article That Supports Ruling

Donald Trump

Donald Trump, again taking his cue from TV news (this time Morning Joe), ripped the 9th Circuit ruling on his Muslim travel ban, but because he doesn’t know what he’s doing, cited an article that is actually supportive of the court’s decision and says the executive order was issued with an “incompetent malevolence.”

RELATED: 9th Circuit Upholds Suspension of Trump’s Muslim Travel Ban

Trump was immediately called out on social media on all counts. Twitter users noted that it took him less than 15 minutes to cite the passage read by Mika Brzezinski.

Trump tweeted:

LAWFARE: “Remarkably, in the entire opinion, the panel did not bother even to cite this (the) statute.” A disgraceful decision!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 10, 2017

Immediately after it was discussed on Morning Joe:

Here we go — @Morning_Joe full screen at 8:03. Trump tweet at 8:15 pic.twitter.com/OApcgSIiZY

— Ethan Klapper (@ethanklapper) February 10, 2017

But because Trump doesn’t ever bother to do any checking himself, or care about the truth or context, The Hill reports:

The blog post on Lawfare that Trump quoted, while critical of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit’s reasoning, said the court made the right decision in the end.

“The Ninth Circuit is correct to leave the [temporary restraining order] in place, in my view, for the simple reason that there is no cause to plunge the country into turmoil again while the courts address the merits of these matters over the next few weeks,” the post says.

It adds that the judicial system will eventually have to confront the clash between the president’s powers and the incompetent malevolence with which this order was promulgated.”

Others noticed too:

The LAWFARE article Trump tweeted a few minutes ago ends with this line. Are there any adult professionals working in the WH today? pic.twitter.com/oQeT20rhTR

“…to plunge the country into turmoil again while the courts address the merits of these matters over the next few weeks” -LAWFARE 2/

— Jim Sciutto (@jimsciutto) February 10, 2017

And several things are becoming really clear:

Ha, the key to the morning tweets: You have to watch TV while reading along to ascertain what’s making him unhinged. t.co/OcwMHZqPqO

— Mike Signorile (@MSignorile) February 10, 2017

Seeming more true. He doesn’t READ the NYT when story publishes at night. He listens to Joe or Mika read it next morning. Spin proves it. t.co/Gjf522va9p

— Mike Signorile (@MSignorile) February 10, 2017

Trump also blasted the New York Times for a report on his discussions with President Xi Jinping of China:

The failing @nytimes does major FAKE NEWS China story saying “Mr.Xi has not spoken to Mr. Trump since Nov.14.” We spoke at length yesterday!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 10, 2017

But that was an incorrect assertion because Trump didn’t read it, or can’t:

@MSignorile @marcslove He can’t read – there’s increasing evidence of it. Sad! (Not joking)

— Kristy Eldredge (@AnnKittenplan) February 10, 2017

A fifth grader reading the NYT story could have told you that the story was precisely about Trump’s conversation yesterday with Xi t.co/Y2QuroJMPc
