Donald Trump on Thursday morning threatened UC Berkeley’s federal funding on Thursday morning following a night in which students shut down a speech by homocon white supremacist, Islamophobe, transphobe, fame-whore, Breitbart editor and con man Milo Yiannopoulos.
The peaceful protest was rocked by violent agitators, NPR reports:
In a statement, the university said: “The violence was instigated by a group of about 150 masked agitators who came onto campus and interrupted an otherwise non-violent protest.”
It said that at the time more than 1,500 protesters were gathered outside the event.
“This was a group of agitators who were masked up, throwing rocks, commercial grade fireworks and Molotov cocktails at officers,” UC Berkeley Police Chief Margo Bennet told The Associated Press. Police put the campus on lock down for several hours. There were no reports of arrests or serious injuries, according to the AP.
Trump tweeted on Thursday morning:
If U.C. Berkeley does not allow free speech and practices violence on innocent people with a different point of view – NO FEDERAL FUNDS?

Berkeley, of course, is one of the liberal bastions of free speech and education. Students were protesting hate speech, not trying to shut down free speech. Big difference.

Leaked Draft of ‘Religious Freedom’ Executive Order Reveals Chilling Plan to Legalize Anti-LGBT Discrimination
A leaked draft of an executive order that would legalize discrimination against LGBT people and others on the basis of religious beliefs is causing alarm. Some are suggesting Trump could sign it following the National Prayer Breakfast on Thursday, which he is attending.

The Nation reports on the draft:
The four-page draft order, a copy of which is currently circulating among federal staff and advocacy organizations, construes religious organizations so broadly that it covers “any organization, including closely held for-profit corporations,” and protects “religious freedom” in every walk of life: “when providing social services, education, or healthcare; earning a living, seeking a job, or employing others; receiving government grants or contracts; or otherwise participating in the marketplace, the public square, or interfacing with Federal, State or local governments.”
The draft order seeks to create wholesale exemptions for people and organizations who claim religious or moral objections to same-sex marriage, premarital sex, abortion, and trans identity, and it seeks to curtail women’s access to contraception and abortion through the Affordable Care Act.
The contents of the leaked document are draconian and chilling:
Language in the draft document specifically protects the tax-exempt status of any organization that “believes, speaks, or acts (or declines to act) in accordance with the belief that marriage is or should be recognized as the union of one man and one woman, sexual relations are properly reserved for such a marriage, male and female and their equivalents refer to an individual’s immutable biological sex as objectively determined by anatomy, physiology, or genetics at or before birth, and that human life begins at conception and merits protection at all stages of life.”

Bigotry at 1600: Latest Target of Trump’s Reign of Hate Appears to Be LGBTQ People
HRC responded to new media reports about a leaked License to Discriminate Executive Order that is being prepared by Donald Trump’s White House, less than 48 hours after they claimed to be supportive of the LGBTQ community. The leaked order — which would allow an unprecedented expansion of taxpayer-funded discrimination that could have broad implications on LGBTQ people — would be a direct contradiction of claims made earlier in the week order that Donald Trump would be an ally to the LGBTQ community. HRC has been raising concerns throughout the week and the White House may now be poised to move us backward. On Tuesday, HRC President Chad Griffin and other civil rights leaders gathered to warn against the threat of such an order.
HRC President Chad Griffin said:
“The leaked draft of Donald Trump’s License to Discriminate order is sweeping and dangerous. It reads like a wishlist from some of the most radical anti-equality activists. If true, it seems this White House is poised to wildly expand anti-LGBTQ discrimination across all facets of the government — even if he does maintain the Obama EO. If Donald Trump goes through with even a fraction of this order, he’ll reveal himself as a true enemy to LGBTQ people. We’ve already seen that the Trump administration is willing to go after women, immigrants, people of color, and most frighteningly, people who disagree with him. If this version is true this could represent another chilling attempt to go after LGBTQ people, federal employees, employees of federal contractors, and people served by federal programs funded with taxpayer dollars. The impacts extend to anybody in the LGBTQ community, women, minority religious communities and others. Let’s make one thing clear: the Human Rights Campaign will fight tooth-and-nail to protect the LGBTQ community, and protect its members from discrimination.”
