During Renée Zellweger‘s recent sit down with The Advocate to talk about her new movie “Bridget Jones’s Baby,” the subject of those old gay rumors about ex-husband Kenny Chesney came up.

Zellweger and Chesney married in 2005. Zellweger cited “fraud” as the reason for having the marriage annulled after just four months, spurring speculation and rumors that Chesney might be gay.

“I forgot about that. It’s a pretty big thing to forget, isn’t it?” Zellweger said when asked about the rumors. “That made me sad. It made me sad that somehow people were using that as a way to be cruel and calling someone gay as a pejorative, which has fateful consequences. Of course, there’s the bigger-picture problem of why anyone had to make up a story at all.”

So did she feel pulled to rush to his defense?

“Well, I’d said all I needed to say on that subject,” she said. “I’m an old-fashioned gal who doesn’t feel it’s appropriate to hang out your laundry on the lawn. I feel you devalue yourself as a human being when you share very personal things with a bajillion strangers who are making fun of you. I just don’t see that there’s any dignity in that. But sometimes it is difficult to just let something be what it is, especially when it’s unnecessary ugliness. Once you’ve said your piece, shouldn’t that be enough? And why is the ugliness that’s perpetuated in the media so attractive to people?”

Chesney commented on the rumors in an interview with Playboy in 2009.

“What guy who loves girls wouldn’t be angry about that? I didn’t sign up for that,” he said. “I think people need to live their lives the way they want to, but I’m pretty confident in the fact that I love girls (laughs). I’ve got a long line of girls who could testify that I am not gay.”

Zellweger also talks gay best friends, both on and off screen, playing with lesbian subtext in “Cold Mountain,” and her connection to the LGBTQ community in the interview, which you can read in full here.

Tony Marrero survived the mass shooting at Pulse in Orlando, in part with the help of inspiration from Katy Perry‘s song “Rise.”

“The lyrics to that song are so powerful,” Marrero told Ellen DeGeneres while appearing on her show on Thursday. “So I embraced it.”

“Have you met Katy yet, or no?” DeGeneres asked.

When Marrero said that he had not, she asked, “Do you want to meet Katy?”

Before he could answer Perry walked out and embraced him. Both were left shaking and moved to tears.

“I just want to say thank you for everything you do,” Marrero told her. “Your lyrics to that song helped me from the day that I was in the hospital all the way to now.”

“Life isn’t easy and you need little reliefs, through songs quite possibly. I’m happy to be a joy, and I’m happy to be a light, and I’m happy I could be there in my own little way to help you,” Perry said.

Perry added that she heard he was a creative and wanted to personally pay for his first year of film school.

Stephen Colbert Rips Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi – WATCH

screen-shot-2016-09-09-at-12-33-00-pm

On Thursday night, Stephen Colbert took aim at Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, or as he called her “the stepmom who can’t understand why you won’t warm up to her.”

Colbert took a look at how Bondi dropped an investigation into Trump University after the Trump Foundation donated $25,000 to a PAC affiliated with her campaign. While Colbert said that nobody can say for certain that this was quid pro quo pay-for-play, “One thing’s for sure: Pam Bondi is the only person in the world who made money from Trump University.”

Of Trump, Colbert commented, “He said, ‘Yeah I cut the check, but it’s only because I like Bondi so much. I’m not the kind of guy who expects favors in exchange for political donations.’ Which makes me wonder, then who is this guy?” Colbert then showed a video of Trump talking about donating to politicians so they will ‘kiss his ass.’

Oh, also: Bondi apparently stole someone’s dog after Hurricane Katrina. So there’s that.

‘Gay Voice’ Donald Trump Meets Hunky Football Players and Wrestlers – WATCH

‘Gay Voice’ Donald Trump Meets Hunky Football Players and Wrestlers – WATCH

gay voice donald trump

“Look at the size of these guys!”

In January, Donald Trump held a rally in Iowa in which he brought up a bevy of beefy, corn-fed Iowa State football players and wrestlers onto the stage to press the flesh.

While the event itself may have been fairly innocuous (aside from causing a scandal at the NCAA), it becomes far more entertaining if you take what Trump said and add a stereotypical ‘gay voice.’

YouTuber Peter Serafinowicz did just that in a video he calls, “Sassy Trump: Heterosexual Trump.”

You may recall that back in February we shared Serafinowicz’s video titled ‘Donald Gay Trump’ in which Serafinowicz first gave Trump a ‘gay voice.’ That video went viral with over 1.7 million hits as of this posting.

Wrote Serafinowicz of his latest video, “This actually happened. I dubbed his voice, but it’s all Trump’s words.”

Migaloo, a Rare All-White Humpback, Just Gave Whale-Watchers The Thrill of Their Lives: WATCH

Migaloo

Migaloo, one of four reported all-white humpback whales in the world, gave visitors to Australia’s Great Barrier Reef a treat this week when he was spotted near Green Island, an island near Cairns, off the Queensland coast.

Migaloo, believed to be an albino but defined as hypo-pigmented for lack of definitive evidence, migrates from northern Australia to Antarctica along with a pod of pigmented humpbacks.

Tourists on Big Cat Green Island Reef Cruises gasped with joy at seeing the beautiful sight of Migaloo in the deep blue water.

Here’s another shot with more emotional gasping:

SOCIAL ACTION ALERT: Donald Trump and Mike Pence at the #NotOurValues Voters Summit

SOCIAL ACTION ALERT: Donald Trump and Mike Pence at the #NotOurValues Voters Summit

Today, at 3:30 p.m. EST Donald Trump will address the Family Research Council’s (FRC) “Voter Values Summit.” The FRC has been deemed a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center and has made the vilification of LGBTQ people its central mission. The Summit is condemned frequently for its inclusion of radically discriminatory participants and is an influential watering hole for anti-equality politicians to spew their hateful vitriol.

It’s fitting that Donald Trump will be the first Republican nominee for president to address the Summit since its inception in 2006. Trump’s bigotry is in lockstep with the FRC and its attendees. He’s embraced an anti-equality agenda from the start — opposing marriage equality and embracing laws that threaten LGBTQ people in their homes, schools and communities. Just last month, Trump’s campaign opened a field office across the street from Pulse nightclub in Orlando.

He further doubled down on his opposition to equality by putting Indiana Gov. Mike Pence on the ticket. Pence became a national disgrace in 2015, for his “license to discriminate” bill that could have allowed businesses to deny service to LGBTQ people.

Donald Trump has built his entire campaign on the values of hatred, division, and fear. But these values are at odds with the fair-minded majority of Americans who believe LGBTQ people should be treated equally under the law.

That’s why HRC is calling upon our online community of supporters to participate in coordinated social media engagement that speaks out against the far-right’s agenda of discrimination:

Join us for a Tweet Up during Trump’s remarks, today at 3:30 p.m. EST using the hashtags #NotOurValues and #VVS2016.

We’ve also unveiled a Snapchat filter geo-targeted for use of those protesting on the ground at the Summit.

Snapchat

Help us tell the world that hatred and discrimination against LGBTQ people may represent the values of Donald Trump, Mike Pence, and the hate groups that support them — but they’re certainly not ours.
