Donald Trump: I Will Apologize In the Distant Future If I’m Ever Wrong – VIDEO

donald trump

Donald Trump appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon last night for an interview that, like Trump himself, was big on spectacle and light on substance.

In the interview, Trump talked about why he’s the GOP frontrunner, Hillary Clinton’s email scandal, his plans to build a wall across the U.S.-Mexican border. He was also asked to say something nice to fellow GOP contender Carly Fiorina (“I think she’s a very nice woman”).

Later, Trump took part in a faux interview with himself in the mirror, with Fallon playing the billionaire blowhard’s reflection. Check out all the clips below:

Kim Davis Files ‘Hail Mary’ Motion to Avoid Issuing Marriage Licenses to Gay Couples

Kim Davis Files ‘Hail Mary’ Motion to Avoid Issuing Marriage Licenses to Gay Couples

Kim Davis

Kim Davis isn’t finished trying to squirm her way out of having to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

BuzzFeed’s Chris Geidner reports Davis’s lawyers asked a federal appeals court on Friday to effectively end the requirement that all couples be allowed to marry in the county.

The AP adds:

Attorneys for Kim Davis, who objects to gay marriage on religious grounds, argued in their motion to the Sixth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals that all the same-sex couples who sued Davis for a license received one from her deputies while she was in jail. Therefore, they said, her office should not be required to issue them to any more couples once she returns to work.

U.S. District Court Judge David Bunning wrote that his mandate to issue licenses applied to all couples, not only those who filed suit. But Davis’ lawyers allege that order was issued improperly, and again have asked for a delay.

“I hate to use a religious metaphor, given the circumstances,” said Sam Marcosson, a constitutional law professor at the University of Louisville, “but this strikes me as a Hail Mary pass.”

In related news, Judge David Bunning has denied Davis’s request for injunction against Gov. Steve Beshear:

Davis’s lawyer Mat Staver with the Liberty Counsel appeared on Megyn Kelly’s Fox News program yesterday to discuss what Davis will do on Monday when she returns to work.

Channel Islands celebrate its first ever Pride

Channel Islands celebrate its first ever Pride

The Channel Islands have held its first Pride march in Jersey today.

The event takes place from Friday to Sunday (11-13) which, besides the march, includes music, comedy and film shows.

Guernsey-based LGBTI advocacy group Liberate organized the event at which around 3000 people have been estimated attending.

A really good and colourful turnout for the Jersey Pride festival today. Congratulations to all involved #CIPride pic.twitter.com/vDK4beI2RF

— Sen. Lyndon Farnham (@lyndonfarnham) September 12, 2015

Christian May of Liberate told BBC News: ‘Growing up an openly gay man I never thought I’d see anything like this in Jersey. I’m amazed at how far the island has come.’

The pride event indicates shifting attitudes on the British-controlled islands, which lie between England and France. Liberate are continuing to work toward marriage equality in the region, which could be as far away as 2017.

They announced on their twitter account the next event is already planned to take place in Guernsey next year.

Here’s a fun Labor Day weekend story… We just decided to add two new members to our Johnson family. Baby French Bulldogs. In my right hand is BRUTUS and in my left hand is HOBBS. Bring them home and immediately take them outside so they can start learning how to “handle their business and potty like big boys”. I set them both down and they both take off in a full sprint and fall right into the deep end of our pool. HOBBS immediately starts doggy paddling while BRUTUS (like a brick) sink heads first to the bottom of the pool. I take off into a full sprint, fully clothed, dive in the pool, swim to the bottom, rescue my brick, I mean BRUTUS and bring him back to the edge of the pool. He was a little delirious.. took a moment, threw up all the water he swallowed and looked up at me as if to say, “Thank God you didn’t have to give me mouth to mouth!” and then ran off to play with his brother. A few lessons I’ve learned today.. A) Not all puppies have the instinct to doggie paddle. B) Some puppies (like BRUTUS) will be so in shock by experiencing water they will sink extremely fast so react quick. C) While spiriting to save your puppies life, before you dive in, try and throw your cel phone to safety. Don’t keep it in your pocket… like I did. #BRUTUSLives #HOBBSCanSwim #MyCelPhonesDead #AndNoMouthToMouthNeeded #HappyLaborDay

Demi Lovato Suggests She’s Bisexual: VIDEO

Demi Lovato Suggests She’s Bisexual: VIDEO

Demi Lovato

Singer Demi Lovato appeared on Alan Carr’s UK talk show Chatty Man and she and Carr had an exchange about Lovato’s hit song “Cool for the Summer” and what it means.

Alan: (reciting lyrics) Tell me what you want / What you like / It’s okay / I’mma little curious too / Even if they judge / F–k it all / Do the time / I just wanna have some fun with you / Got a taste for the cherry / I just need to take a bite / Take me down into your paradise.” Now I put it to you Miss Lovato, that that song is about lesbianism.
Demi: What?
Alan: Lesbianism.
Demi: I’m not confirming and I’m definitely not denying. All of my songs are based off of personal experiences. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with experimentation at all.
Alan:  No. The trouble is i experimented once and it stuck.
Demi: Hey, I didn’t say that it didn’t stick either. I didn’t say that it didn’t stick .
Alan: That’s the thing I’m fascinating by, because I think that women are elastic, they can go in and out, they’re quite fluid and stuff. You never get male musicians going, ‘I’m gonna write about c*ck.’

Following their exchange Lovato joins actor Tom Hardy on the couch and Hardy responds to rumors that he has been lined up to play the next James Bond.

Hardy and Lovato then play a game of ‘Heavyweight Dubsmash’ in which they face off lip-synching Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You”, and finally, Lovato performs “Cool for the Summer”.

Was The Movie 'The Hours' Good For The Gay Community?

If you’re going to make a movie about queer people, you’re likely going to get a divisive response. Does it reinforce negative stereotypes? Does it provide an accurate cross-section of the diverse LGBT community? How many think pieces will it incite? In this regular column, we’ll look at depictions of queers in cinema and ask, Was It Good For The Gays? Meet the gay classical star who’s painted his body like a piano to get more people into music

Meet the gay classical star who’s painted his body like a piano to get more people into music

A British classical pianist is bringing his art form to a new audience by painting his body to look like a piano.

While pop stars or opera singers are able to use their body as their instrument, 26-year-old Emmanuel Vass wanted to explore the relationship between the artist and the piano – by transforming his muscular arms and torso into painted black and white keys.

‘As a piano player I play something external, but it is a part of me – there has to be a connection between you and the instrument,’ he explained, speaking to Gay Star News. ‘I wanted to explore that link.’

‘I was thinking carefully about how classical music is represented in mainstream media. When a lot of people think about classical music they think about an introverted, anaemic-looking person standing meekly on the stage. That’s not me at all, and it’s the complete opposite of my training!

Emmanuel Vass, classical piano player

He added: ‘I don’t think it’s necessary to wear clothing from the 19th Century when you’re playing music from that time. I don’t have to look like Mozart when I’m playing his music!

‘It’s a bit like saying One Direction should look like the Beatles to be good pop stars. When you put it like that, it just sounds insane.’

While he’s happy to show the sexier side of his art form, Vass understands his topless photos are bound to shatter a few champagne glasses among the classical elite, who generally expect a performer to be wearing at least a shirt – if not a suit.

‘Some people have reacted in a negative manner,’ he said. ‘As an artist you can never please everybody all the time across the board. I feel personally that I am bringing something new to the table. Nobody has ever done this before in classical music!

‘Controversy drives art forward in many ways. It’s about pushing boundaries and driving discussion and always being at the forefront of vision. We don’t need to look back to the 19th Century – we should embrace what’s going on right now!

‘We live in a social media age, a smartphone age; the general public do look before they hear. If you have some striking visuals they might be more likely to want to listen to the piano for the first time.’

Emmanuel Vass, classical pianist

‘I don’t want to hide under a suit!’ (c) The Entertainment Bureau/Edward Taylor

He added: ‘I completely acknowledge I’ll probably piss some people off… but Brahms pissed people off too, right? Stravinsky wrote a ballet that caused people to riot and run out of the theatre – but now that ballet is seen as the pinnacle of contemporary music and completely changed the way we understand the music that followed.’

‘The quality of my playing is still inherent – it’s been broadcast by Classic FM and BBC Radio 3, and my album was at the top of the UK classical charts a few months ago – so I don’t think I’m taking it too far.’

‘The most important thing is always the music, and the way I look doesn’t actually affect the way I play. It just might turn a few heads in the right direction, that’s all.’

‘So many musicians are objectified for their talent; either that or you’re a ‘youth object’, or a ‘hero object’ – so why can’t you be a ‘sex object’?’ he said.

‘That’s not necessarily what I’m aiming for, but if that’s what I’m being perceived as, then why not?!’

‘I’m a pianist who pumps iron and goes to the gym – I don’t want to hide that under a suit! I enjoy exercise and running with my dog. That’s part of my life, just like playing is.’

Emmanuel Vass, classical piano player

‘I don’t have to look like Mozart when I’m playing his music!’ (c) The Entertainment Bureau/Edward Taylor

So what does his partner make of his unconventional classical photoshoot?

‘My boyfriend has been very supportive,’ he explained. ‘It’s part and parcel of having a career – you have to do some promotion for your music, after all. He takes it as a compliment that I’m getting attention!’

Anyone expecting to get a glimpse of Vass’s body-painted torso at an upcoming concert might have to wait until the warmer months; while he won’t be wearing a Mozart costume, the pianist is planning on wearing a few more clothes as he tours the UK.

‘The music deserves a certain level of respect,’ he said. ‘I wouldn’t go on stage in my piano outfit; you’re in danger of making it a circus if you take it too far. Besides, my next concert is in the Chapel Royal in Brighton, then I’m playing at St Mary Redcliffe in Bristol on the 26th of September – it’s a little cold at that time of year to be strutting around topless!’

Six Times Musicians Told Antigay Politicians To Piss Off

Six Times Musicians Told Antigay Politicians To Piss Off

michael-stipe-1024This week, Survivor made headlines after one Kimberly Davis of Rowan County, KY used one of their songs — “Eye Of The Tiger” — as her freedom-America-homophobic anthem.

“The song has motivated thousands through the years to reach beyond their limits,” band co-founder Jim Peterik told Billboard. “Its use for the release of Kim Davis does not support my views or my politics.”

A few days later, out R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe had these words for one Donald Trump after Stipe learned Trump has been using “It’s the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)” at campaign rallies:

“Go fuck yourselves, the lot of you – you sad, attention-grabbing, power-hungry little men,” Stipe said in an email to The Daily Beast. “Do not use our music or my voice for your moronic charade of a campaign.”

We wanted to take a look back at the rich American tradition of musicians telling antigay, conservative politicians to — in Stipe’s poetic words — “go fuck yourselves.”

Here’s what we found:

Survivor to Newt Gingrich: Stop playing “Eye of the Tiger”

Survivor must be having the worst kind of de ja vu with this Kim Davis nonsense.

Here’s Newt Gingrich making his waddling entrance to the 2011 CPAC convention to the tune of, that’s right, “Eye of the Tiger”:

Survivor member Frankie Sullivan sued, and Gingrich settled for an undisclosed amount.

Heart to Sarah Palin: Stop playing “Barracuda”

heart320

Palin burst onto the political scene in 2008 with the help of Heart’s 1977 rock classic “Barracuda.”

The band issued this statement:

“Sarah Palin’s views and values in NO WAY represent us as American women. We ask that our song ‘Barracuda’ no longer be used to promote her image. The song ‘Barracuda’ was written in the late ’70s as a scathing rant against the soulless, corporate nature of the music business, particularly for women. (The ‘barracuda’ represented the business.) While Heart did not and would not authorize the use of their song at the RNC, there’s irony in Republican strategists’ choice to make use of it there.”

Tom Petty and Katrina and the Waves to Michele Bachman: Stop playing “American Girl” and “Walking on Sunshine”

Queen of antigay rhetoric Michele Bachman tried to co-op these American Classics into her batshit crazy campaign. Clearly the tunes weren’t enough to convince voters she had anything redeemable to offer the nation.

Silversun Pickups to Mitt Romney: Stop playing “Panic Switch”

Mitt Romney trying to gain indie cred is like Queerty trying to gain cred with any of the above politicians.

Here’s what Silversun Pickups had to say to Mitt:

“We don’t like people going behind our backs, using our music without asking, and we don’t like the Romney campaign,” singer and guitarist Brian Aubert said in a statement. “We’re nice, approachable people. We won’t bite. Unless you’re Mitt Romney! We were very close to just letting this go because the irony was too good. While he is inadvertently playing a song that describes his whole campaign, we doubt that ‘Panic Switch’ really sends the message he intends.”

Newly Erected Billboard Trolls Kim Davis in Her Hometown

Newly Erected Billboard Trolls Kim Davis in Her Hometown

Kim Davis Billboard

A new billboard meant to teach same-sex marriage foe Kim Davis a lesson has been erected in her hometown of Morehead, Kentucky.

Planting Peace, the folks behind the Equality House, the rainbow-colored house which taunts the Westboro Baptist Church from across the street in Topeka, Kansas, is behind the billboard.

The group writes, on its website:

Following the June 26th Supreme Court ruling on marriage equality, Rowan County clerk Kim Davis refused to issue same-sex marriage licenses in her home state, citing that doing so compromised her religious beliefs. That day, she became the poster child for the anti-gay movement.

As has been painstakingly observed time and time again, the anti-LGBTQ movement is comprised of a substantial number of zealots who unfailingly refer to their rigid interpretation of religious text to narrowly define “traditional” institutions and values. They pick and choose what they wish to convey as immoral and unacceptable, while seemingly sweeping lines of scripture just a few letters away completely under the rug.

In response, Planting Peace has constructed a message for Kim Davis and the anti-LGBTQ movement. The intent of the billboard is to expose this narrow interpretation by Davis and others that they use to defend their discrimination against the LGBTQ community. It is important and relevant to call this out, because these messages and actions are not simply about a political or religious debate. There are LGBTQ youth across the world who are taking their lives at an alarming rate because of these messages from society that make them feel broken or less than. We have to meet hate with love…intolerance with compassion.

Enjoy the view, Kim. Enjoy the view.

We must not let the state control trans identity

We must not let the state control trans identity

For years trans people have been suppressed by an unthinking system that assumes there are only two genders and it should be very hard for someone to change from one to ‘the other’.

The current medical way to change genders grew from the 1950s, when surgeons wanted assurance the trans people who were asking them for surgery were sane.

Only ‘normal’ or ‘acceptable’ trans people were put forward for treatment.

I’ve heard it said quite a few times that courts grant trans people rights, and governments take them away.

For example, the UK government was forced to find a way to allow some trans people to be registered as our true gender by two judgements in the European Court of Human Rights.

The result was the Gender Recognition Act 2004, which was ground-breaking in its day for not insisting the individual had undergone surgery. But the wording in that law was watered down by the Equality Act 2010, which made it legal once again to discriminate against trans people in certain circumstances.

A few weeks ago a petition was launched challenging the UK government to allow trans people to self-determine their gender, and recognize the gender of non-binary people – those who either reject or don’t fit into society’s general understanding that we are either male or female.

It raised over 30,000 signatures in only a few days. In the early hours of this morning, Britain’s Ministry of Justice replied. I find myself wondering why a response was sent out at 1am on a Saturday morning, and can only come up with cynical reasons.

In some ways it’s a standard government response – rather than replying to the point made, it simply restates the current position. But it’s inflammatory for a number of reasons.

On Tuesday the new Commons Women and Equalities Committee in the UK Parliament heard about the parlous state that National Health Service gender services have been in for some considerable time.

With average waiting lists of over a year in some clinics just to get a first appointment with a gender specialist, Members of Parliament questioned why doctors run it as they do – in particular why they insist people live in their gender before surgery.

Those working in the NHS conceded an arbitrary time limit before gender surgery made no sense.

MPs heard standards vary across clinics, that provision has been developed in a haphazard manner, and that levels of trans awareness (and training to address the gaps) across all NHS staff were very low.

MPs were open-mouthed as Jess Bradley explained to them the lack of ‘cultural competency’ within the NHS and the consequences it has. The chief exec of West London Mental Health Trust, which runs the important Charing Cross Gender Identity Clinic, said ‘it is a lottery how you move through the system’.

The government claims all gender identity clinics provide an appropriate service to trans people. But parliament has now heard from senior people in the NHS that this is not true.

The government also claims they put in laws to allow trans people to legally change their gender in 2004 because they were committed to allowing trans people their rights. Trans people with slightly longer memories, however, point out the UK was forced into this by the European Court system.

And the law they passed in 2004 required trans people to end their marriages to gain gender recognition – something now accepted as just plain wrong.

Recent government statistics reveal that just 10 married trans people applied for gender recognition in the first three months of 2015. Given that I personally know over 25 trans people who are married, this rather indicates that the current law is failing.

The UK’s insistence you have to prove your identity to a faceless panel is now looking dated – particularly in the face of new Danish and Irish laws permitting self-determination.

It took one Irish friend of mine just 24 hours to have his gender recognition certificate to be issued this week. Compare that to the weeks of uncertainty UK applicants face, not to mention the financial and emotional cost incurred.

That was the focus of this new petition.

The UK claims the ‘state has a legitimate interest in ensuring that people who take on a new legal status can establish that they meet certain criteria’. So what makes the UK so different to Ireland, Denmark and the handful of other countries where self-determination now exists?

What does this statement mean other than ‘you have to prove you’re acceptable’?

The government is claiming ownership of a core part of your identity, and doesn’t want to give that up without a fight.

We seem to be coming to an end of the period where trans people have had to prove themselves. But the paternalism displayed by medics and government is still very much on display.

The response to this latest petition shows the fight to get the establishment to listen and change appropriately is very far from over.

Trans people are finding stronger and stronger voices, and are no longer prepared to accept lies and paternalistic whitewash. All this response will do is unite the voices for change even more.
