Steve Grand appeared on live TV on Saturday (12 September) but it seems one anchor skipped an important bullet point in her notes – that the singer is openly gay.

The All-American Boy posted a video and described the potentially awkward interview in a lengthy Facebook post.

‘Today I went on live TV in San Diego to promote the show I’m doing tonight at Urban Mo’s and to also talk about getting asked to the Marine Corps ball,’ he wrote.

About a minute into the interview, Grand was asked if his inspiration comes from the ‘poor women who date you, right?’

Miss Mississippi gives flawless answer to Kim Davis question

Miss Mississippi slammed Kim Davis during Sunday (13 September) night’s final of the Miss America 2016 pageant.

During the Q&A portion, Hannah Roberts, 22, from Mount Olive was asked if the Supreme Court ruling that legalized gay marriage violated the Kentucky clerk’s religious freedom.

This was her flawless response:

‘It absolutely does not violate her religious freedom,’ she said.

‘That is her job that she was voted into doing. That law is a federal law throughout the rest of her country, so she did violate the law there.’

The biochemistry graduate went on to win first runner-up and a $25,000 scholarship.

The pageant shows how far the US come since 2009 when Miss California, Carrie Prejean, gave a bumbling answer in support of ‘opposite marriage.’

Caitlyn Jenner Voices Solid Support for Marriage Equality

Caitlyn Jenner, having expressed fairly tepid support for marriage equality in a recent appearance on Ellen, has now published a blog post emphasizing that she is solidly on the side of equality.

“Like many people, there was a time when I didn’t realize how important it is for gay couples to have the right to get married,” she wrote in the post, published today. “But after hearing from my gay friends and learning more about the hardships they faced because of discrimination, it became clear to me that everyone should be able to marry the person they love.”

On Ellen DeGeneres’s show earlier this month, Jenner described herself as a “traditionalist” who was not initially in favor of marriage equality. “But as time has gone on, I think, like a lot of people on this issue have really changed their thinking here to ‘I don’t ever want to stand in front of anybody’s happiness.’ If that word ‘marriage’ is really, really that important to you, I can go with it.”

DeGeneres responded that Jenner didn’t really seem “on board” with marriage equality and explained that “marriage is marriage,” and civil unions or domestic partnerships don’t have equal status. A few days later, DeGeneres appeared on Howard Stern’s Sirius XM talk show and said Jenner seemed judgmental about gay people.

Now Jenner wants everyone to know she’s unequivocally for marriage equality, and she hopes to help transgender people make the same kind of progress gay, lesbian, and bisexual people have made. “Up until my transition, I had never met another openly trans person,” she wrote. Job discrimination, sex work, ostracism from families, horrific violence… I had no idea what so many people go through to live as their true selves. It is staggering.”

“Trans rights are about 30 years behind gay rights (and look at the incredible progress we’ve made there!),” she continued. “We’ve got a lot more work to do in the trans community, but we’re getting closer. … I can only hope that by sharing my story, there’s someone out there whose mind has been changed about trans people.”

Also, while Jenner does not address the matter, marriage equality is an issue that affects transgender people. Some trans people wish to marry someone of the same gender, and even those seeking to marry a partner of the other gender still sometimes encountered obstacles when state laws against same-sex marriage were in force, if the state did not recognize their lived gender as their legal one. There have been instances of trans people being denied parenting rights, inheritances, and more because their marriages were not recognized as legally valid.  

Jenner’s post further notes that there is diversity of opinion among transgender people and that she has learned much from her new friends, including Jenny Boylan, Candis Cayne, and Chandi Moore. “One of the many lessons that these fabulous women have taught me is that — despite all being transgender — they each feel differently about particular issues,” Jenner wrote. “It’s important to have an open dialogue with the trans people in your life about their unique viewpoints and not lump us all together. Just because I think something is funny or appropriate, doesn’t mean that all trans people feel the same way and vice versa. I can only speak from my own personal experience and in no way can I represent the entire trans community. My opinion is just that, my own opinion. There’s no one way to be trans!”

Following backlash, Caitlyn Jenner now unequivocally supportive of gay marriage

Caitlyn Jenner’s lukewarm endorsement of same-sex marriage during an appearance of The Ellen DeGeneres Show last week baffled many – including the host.

But in a WhoSay column posted Monday (14 September), Jenner tries harder to leave no doubt about where she stands on the issue.

‘Like many people, there was a time when I didn’t realize how important it is for gay couples to have the right to get married,’ she writes. ‘But after hearing from my gay friends and learning more about the hardships they faced because of discrimination, it became clear to me that everyone should be able to marry the person they love.’

Jenner, 65, had told DeGeneres: ‘I have to admit – I remember 15 years ago, 20 years ago whenever it was when the whole gay marriage issue came up – at first I was not for it.

‘I mean I thought I’m a traditionalist. I’m older than most people in the audience. I kind of like tradition and it’s always been a man and a woman. And I’m thinking I don’t quite get it. But as time has gone on, I think like a lot of people on this issue have really changed their thinking here to I don’t ever want to stand in front of anybody’s happiness. That’s not my job. … If that word marriage is really that important to you I can go with it. I’m on board. I’m okay with that,’

DeGeneres called Jenner out on the spot then later during an interview with Howard Stern: ‘She still has a judgement about gay marriage.…You’re wanting people to understand and accept you – this is like really confusing to people and you still have a judgement about gay people and marriage.’

Jenner is a Republican and been married and divorced three times.

What To Watch On TV This Week: Have The ‘Best Time Ever’ With NPH

— Openly-gay YouTube superstar Tyler Oakley joins web comedian Grace Helbig as co-hosts of The 5th Annual Streamy Awards, Thursday at 10 p.m. on VH1. It’s the first time the awards will be broadcast on television, and the event will feature performances from A Great Big World, Hailee Steinfeld and Sir Mix-a-Lot.

Do Trans People Of Color Have A Harder Time Being Accepted?
Model, actress, and designer Isis King may have been born biologically male, but ever since childhood she knew she was woman. Establishing a transgender identity does not come easy though, and at 23, Isis was homeless, living at a New York City LGBT shelter. After finding work as a background model for an America’s Next Top Model photo shoot, host Tyra Banks took an interest in her, and asked Isis be a part of the show’s next season. Within months, Isis was in the national spotlight as the first transgender contestant on Top Model, and she has used her platform to follow her dreams ever since – attending college for fashion design, expanding her modeling and acting career, and serving as an activist for transgender people everywhere.

Struggling for acceptance

With all the recent attention on Caitlyn Jenner, the transgender community has been in the spotlight like never before. But there is still a long way to go when it comes to acceptance and visibility for those with a little less star power. “There have been 17 murders of trans people of color in 2015 alone,” says Isis, “and there are just not a lot of opportunities for trans women of color in general.” Trans women of color have “usually no privilege” says Isis, and often have had troubled upbringings. “When you’re ostracized, when you’re kicked out of the house when you’re young, it can be difficult to find opportunity,” says Isis. Some women resort to sex work, a “dangerous profession” that unfortunately is the only job many ostracized transgender women can get. Progress is still a process; Isis implores that we are “trying to create more opportunities to make the world easier and safer for transgender women”.

The Gay Age Gap Is Real — And It’s Annoying As Hell

If you’re of a certain age — let’s say you were alive when Star Wars was first released in theaters — you’ve probably been deep in a spirited pop culture-related conversation only to have some whippersnapper ask something like “Who’s Gena Rowlands?” or “What’s Rosemary’s Baby?” or, most criminal of all, “Who is John Waters?” That what happens in this video when a gay guy (comic master Sam Pancake) and an obnoxious young queen (rising funny man Brian Jordan Alvarez) are having a chit-chat that quickly devolves into heated conversation about cultural reference points. It’s comedy, but, you know, with a very important message and reminds us that great sex helps overcome almost any obstacle.

Kentucky Gov. Says Marriage Licenses Issued By Rowan County Deputy Clerks Are ‘Valid’ 

Kim Davis, who spent the day hiding in her Rowan County office with the blinds shut, has been hit with yet another setback in her anti-gay crusade as Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear has clarified that marriage licenses issued by her deputy clerks will be considered valid by the state.

Davis’ lawyer Mat Staver had argued last week that all licenses issued while Davis was in jail were “invalid” and “not worth the paper they’re written on.” Davis herself told reporters earlier today:

I want the whole world to know, no mistake about it, that my deputy clerks do not have the authority to issue a license whatsoever.

The AP reports:

Kentucky state law requires that “every license blank shall contain the identical words and figures.” But Beshear noted that the federal judge overseeing Davis’ case has not raised any objections to the licenses.

The Republican president of Kentucky’s state Senate again called for a special session of the state legislature to change state law to exempt Davis and others who share her beliefs from jabbing to issue licenses. But Beshear again rejected that on Monday.

Kentucky Gov. Says Marriage Licenses Issued By Rowan County Deputy Clerks Are ‘Valid’ 

Mother and Daughter Assaulted in NYC by Antigay Attackers

New York City police are investigating an incident that led to a mother and daughter being physically assaulted at a restaurant after being insulted with antigay slurs early Saturday morning.

The two women were eating at the BarKogi restaurant on Manhattan’s Upper East Side at 1:20 a.m. Saturday when a group of people — two men and two other women — started yelling homophobic taunts at them, reports the New York Daily News. 

The daughter, 27, had to be taken to the hospital, the Daily News reports, after being thrown to the ground and suffering a cut knee, while the 46-year-old mother declined medical help. She had been held down by the attackers. 

Police have yet to arrest any of the four suspects, who are wanted on misdemeanor assault charges, according to the paper.
