Here’s how a gay dad explained ‘the sex talk’ to his young sons

‘When a mummy and a daddy love each other very much, they have a special hug… daddy’s sperm meets mummy’s egg, and nine months later, a baby is born.’

Even for straight parents, having ‘the talk’ can be awkward.

For many, explaining the biology of conception serves as a substitute for talking about the issues of intimacy and sex – leaving kids to discover the facts for themselves through their teenage years.

But as gay dad Rob Watson explains, sex between consenting adults, whatever their orientation, is rarely about the procreation of children.

To help parents give their kids a well-rounded view of sex and relationships, he’s created a video explaining how he gave ‘the talk’ to his 12-year-old sons.

‘Sex talks always come from the ‘where do babies come from’ place,’ he said.

‘I was finding as a gay dad that it was incredibly heteronormative.’

He added: ‘It was going to be a talk that I was going to have with my kids that I didn’t actively have a part in, because guess what, I’ve never had s-e-x for the purposes of making a baby.’

One person he hopes to help is his straight cousin, who wanted to ensure her children heard about different kinds of relationships, sexualities, and genders while they were still young.

She wrote a letter asking Rob how he planned address the issue of sex and relationships with his children, in the hope he could give some pointers.

‘I don’t want her to feel boxed in by some heteronormative standards,’ she said.

‘I want her, whoever she’s going to be, I want her to not look back on that talk like I’m forcing her into something.’

Rob explained how the issue of sex came up on its own on a car journey with his two boys.

After one of his sons asked whether ‘the F word means sex’, Rob decided it was time to give them a few facts about adult relationships.

He said: ‘When you are an adult and you want to be very intimate with somebody that you’re very close with, and you feel like you can be completely naked with, and you want to share that of yourself, these are the things adults do – and I described the different sex acts.’

‘And if you happen to be a man and a woman when you do this, that is how the sperm goes from the man into the woman, and could potentially fertilize an egg and create a baby. But that is what sex and intimacy is about.’

Georgia Pastor Has No Time For Anti-LGBT Hypocrites

Georgia Pastor Has No Time For Anti-LGBT Hypocrites

Religious people who are critical of the LGBT community and the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision on same-sex marriage are “hypocritical,” Georgia pastor E. Dewey Smith said in a videotaped sermon that was posted Thursday.

Smith, who is pastor of the House of Hope Atlanta in Decatur, Georgia, and the House of Hope Macon, chastised his congregation and others who “demonize and dehumanize” artists and even members of their own choir who are gay while enjoying and benefitting from their work.

“We have done what the slave master did to us,” he said. “Dehumanize us, degrade us, demonize us, but then use them for our advantage.”

Vocal opponents of homosexuality will cite Leviticus, Smith went on to say, but the same book of the Bible also prohibits eating shellfish, wearing mixed fabrics and sharing a bed with a woman while she’s menstruating.

“Here’s my point. We pick and choose the scriptures that we want to use to beat folk up with, rather than look at our own lives.”

“Look at your neighbor and tell your neighbor, ‘I don’t condemn you. I don’t judge you. I will preach Christ to you,'” he said. “You can’t evangelize and antagonize at the same time.”

Bobby Jindal warns Westboro Baptist Church to stay away from funerals of victims murdered in movie theater

Bobby Jindal warns Westboro Baptist Church to stay away from funerals of victims murdered in movie theater

Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal is prepared to do everything in his power to block the Westboro Baptist Church from protesting the funerals of the victims in the last week’s Lafayette movie theater shooting.

According to The Hill, he issued an executive order yesterday (25 July).

‘In times of grief and mourning, the rule of law is especially important to protect the rights of citizens when they are most vulnerable, and any effort to disrupt or interfere with a family’s ability to grieve following the loss of a loved one is a reprehensible act,’ the Republican wrote, according to The Hill.

‘Any action by any individual or group to in any way disrupt, interfere, or cause additional suffering during this time of mourning is unconscionable and morally reprehensible,’ the order continued.

Last week, 21-year-old Mayci Breaux and 33-year-old Jillian Johnson were gunned down by John Russell Houser. The 59 year-old man, who according to reports had a history of mental illness, entered the theater and watched 20 minutes of the comedy Trainwreck. According to witnesses, he started shooting without saying anything.

He fired at least thirteen rounds in the audience of approximately 20 people, killing the two women and injuring nine.

According to his Twitter account, Houser supported the anti-gay church.

‘The Westboro Baptist Church may be the last real church in America[members not brainwashed],’  he allegedly tweeted in 2013 June.

The church quickly hailed the crime as an act justifying its crusade. Last Friday, 24 July, they posted the following on Twitter:

‘Kissing’ pride parade by Swedish nationalists planned in Muslim-majority Stockholm

‘Kissing’ pride parade by Swedish nationalists planned in Muslim-majority Stockholm

A controversial pride march is set to take place on July 29 in two Muslim-majority districts in Stockholm, Sweden.

The march is being criticised for: ‘Pit[ting] two oppressed groups against each other,’ by LGBTI people and Muslim groups.

Jan Sjunnesson, the former editor newspaper the Samtiden, is organizing the march – the paper was owned by the far-right political party, the Sweden Democrats.

He said on his blog: ‘The same laws of assembly and expression should apply everywhere, regardless of the area or population’ regarding the event.

The march will go through Tensta and Husby, which have large Muslim populations. Järva, the name of the event, is nearby.

The event description says: ‘Clothing optional. In sunny weather, you can tan your stomach and legs. [The march will] take about 2 hours with stops at the piazzas for flag waving, public kissing.’

A counter-demonstration has been organized by Noah North and Emelie Mårtensson, who live in Järva. In an interview with Swedish newspaper Fria Tider, they said the march will aggravate tensions between LGBTI people and Muslims.

There has been some support for the march. Richard Dawkins tweeted an article by Blazing Cat Fur, an anti-Islamic blog, saying it was ‘pathetic’ to call the march ‘racist’.

“To place an LGBT parade” [in a Muslim area of Sweden] “is an expression of pure racism.” Sums up the pathetic Left. t.co/kfFQXjzVtR

— Richard Dawkins (@RichardDawkins) July 23, 2015

On the Facebook event a few attendees argue it’s their right to march whereever.

The Sweden Democrats are a far-right party in Sweden, noted for its anti-immigration policies and supporting the highly controversial cartoons which depicted Prophet Mohammed in 2005.

While not hostile to LGBTI people, they are against gay adoption (unless the child is homeless of related to one parent). They have frequently stated that ‘Islamization’ of Sweden is a threat to gay people.

FRC Hate Leader Tony Perkins: Donald Trump Is a ‘Breath of Fresh Air’ – VIDEO

FRC Hate Leader Tony Perkins: Donald Trump Is a ‘Breath of Fresh Air’ – VIDEO

Tony Perkins

Speaking with CNN’s Michael Smerconish over the weekend, Family Research Council President Tony Perkins praised Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, saying he thinks it will have a “positive impact” on the other GOP candidates.

A new NBC/Marist Poll finds Trump leading the Republican presidential field in New Hampshire and trailing slightly behind Scott Walker in Iowa.

While acknowledging that Trump may have “a hard time in the end convincing social conservatives to back him,” Perkins claimed Trump is still tapping into legitimate right-wing frustrations with the GOP.

“The conservatives in this country are so fed up with politics as usual among Republicans…that they’re just looking for someone to talk straight to them, even if they don’t agree with them,” said Perkins. “I mean given all of his bluster he is still a breath of fresh air among many conservatives in this country.”

In other words, right-wing conservatives in this country are looking for a candidate who will dish out raw, unfiltered crazy – as opposed to hiding it behind an aura of electability or black-rimmed glasses.

And when asked about Trump’s opposition to abortion in light of his 1992 assertion that he was “very pro-choice,” Perkins seemed to brush the flip-flop off, saying:

“I think social conservative voters are willing to allow people to change because most of them have changed so they understand the dynamics of change.”
