Donald Trump answered questions today at a state banquet in Japan hosted by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

He was asked about the rough start to their relationship and revealed that his knowledge of world geography was limited when he was elected:

“So my relationship with Shinzo got off to quite a rocky start because I never ran for office, and here I am. But I never ran, so I wasn’t very experienced. And after I had won, everybody was calling me from all over the world. I never knew we had so many countries.”

Added Trump:

“So I was now president-elect but I didn’t know you were supposed to not see world leaders until after you were in office…it was considered bad form. It was not a nice thing to do and I understand that from the standpoint of the president whose place you were taking.”

He continued:

“So you cam only take so many calls from world leaders because everybody was calling. But Japan you take. And some others. We took Germany, We took Russia. We took China. We took your prime minister.”

More Than Half Of MPs Support Abortion Clinic Protest Buffer Zones

More Than Half Of MPs Support Abortion Clinic Protest Buffer Zones
More than half of MPs would support the introduction of “buffer zones” to stop protests outside abortion clinics, according to a new poll.

A survey by YouGov revealed 57% backed a decision by  Ealing Council to explore the possibility of ending demonstrations in the immediate vicinity of a clinic in its area, after local MP Rupa Huq called for a change in the law to protect those receiving treatment.

Huq, who will lead a debate on the issue in the Commons on Tuesday, wants to table an amendment to new domestic violence legislation being brought about by the government.

She said vulnerable women in her constituency are being targeted by pro-life protesters, who she accused of “weaponising rosary beads”.

Ealing Council voted to explore using anti-social behaviour tools, including Public Spaces Protection Orders in response to growing harassment and intimidation outside a Marie Stopes clinic on Mattock Lane.

Of 101 MPs polled on the issue, just 24% said the were opposed to the action being taken, and no Labour members were against it.

Clare Murphy, director of external affairs at the British Pregnancy Advisory Service, one of the main providers of abortion in the UK, said: “A  clear majority of MPs support action on anti-abortion clinic protests. For years, a tiny handful of individuals have been permitted to cause women seeking legal healthcare services significant distress. As a direct result of the government’s refusal to engage with this issue, these groups have become emboldened and protests have intensified. This cannot be allowed this to continue.

“We are a pro-choice country with a pro-choice parliament – but this isn’t about the rights and wrongs of abortion. Indeed, we know that MPs who have not traditionally supported a woman’s right to choose are in favour of buffer zones – because they understand that the harassment and intimidation of any woman on the streets of the UK is unacceptable.”

She said a number of other councils were considering taking similar steps and urged Home Secretary Amber Rudd to take action to officially enforce buffer zones.

In October, a cross-party group of over 100 MPs, including Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, wrote to Rudd – whose own Hastings constituency has seen activists livestream their protest near an abortion clinic on Facebook – calling for the government to bring forward legislation.

In response, the Home Office said it would “explore whether any further action is needed to ensure clinic staff and patients can go about their lawful business free from harassment, offence or alarm”, but to date the government has insisted no further legislation is needed.

Daily Mail Journalist Ann Leslie Slammed For Criticising Woman Who Report Sexual Harassment

Daily Mail Journalist Ann Leslie Slammed For Criticising Woman Who Report Sexual Harassment
A Daily Mail journalist has faced a backlash after criticising women for coming forward about being sexually harassed.

Speaking on Channel 4 News, Dame Ann Leslie told Krishnan Guru-Murthy that women “can’t have it both ways”.

The long-serving foreign correspondent condemned women who have spoke out in the aftermath of the Harvey Weinstein scandal as she revealed on the programme that she had been sexually assaulted by late Tory MP Nicholas Fairburn.

The journalist said that the Scottish politician, who died in 1995, put his hand on her crotch when they were both appearing on an episode of BBC Radio 4′s Any Questions.

She said: “However, what I don’t like about what’s going on now is feminists have been trying all the time to say ‘oh my goodness, women must be in power, they must be strong, they will be strong’.

“They seem to spend their time now saying women are traumatised because some some silly old drunk in Parliament put his hand on her knee or anything like that. You can’t have it both ways.

“You can’t say women are strong and empowered and then say they’re scared and they’re going to cry and all that sort of thing.”

Kat Banyard, director of feminist pressure group UK Feminista, countered: “I think it shows how much courage the women and girls reporting sexual harassment have when on countless discussions on national TV and in the media this issue is still trivialised and dismissed, when we know actually sexual harassment is a routine, every day experience for many women and girls.”

Leslie also described recent revelations about sexual harassment which have been emerging from numerous industries, as well as from inside Parliament, as “pattercake, absolutely ridiculous”.

Leslie also claimed that women in the UK believe if they are touched on the arm, they “should scream and say ‘rape coming up’”, to which an astonished Guru-Murthy responded: “They don’t scream and say rape, they say stop treating me like a sexual object.”

Her comments prompted a wave of criticism on social media…

How dare Dame Ann Leslie say that women reporting sexual violence are weak? They are so brave. They are so so brave. #C4News
Ann Leslie, if you don’t want to report sexual harassment no-one says you must. But women who do want to report should be supported #c4news

Her comments come as Theresa May has apologised to victims of sex harassment in Westminster, admitting that “too many” women have been subject to abuses of power “over too many years”.

The Prime Minister spoke after she, Jeremy Corbyn and other party leaders agreed to introduce new safeguards as early as next month to protect Parliamentary and political staff – amid fresh allegations of historic and current sleaze.

Be An Equality Voter: Here’s What You Need To Know Before Tuesday’s Election

Be An Equality Voter: Here’s What You Need To Know Before Tuesday’s Election

The Charlotte Municipal General Election is tomorrow, Tuesday, November 7, and equality voters cannot leave this election to chance. Every single vote for pro-equality candidates count. More than 20,000 Charlotteans casted their ballots during early voting for mayor, city council districts, council at-large and school board. This election could come down to a small number of voters, and your vote for equality could make all the difference.

HRC, along with our friends at Equality NC, have endorsed Vi Lyles for Charlotte Mayor and Council At-Large candidates Dimple Ajmera, Braxton Winston, Julie Eiselt and James Mitchell. These are the candidates we need to move Charlotte forward as a welcoming and inclusive city. Equality NC has also endorsed a slate of pro-equality district council and school board candidates.

If you live in Charlotte, we urge you to be an equality voter and cast your ballot for these candidates. Here’s key information to keep in mind before you head to the polls:

  • November 7 is Election Day. Polls are open 6:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. If you’re in line by 7:30 p.m. and the poll closes, stay in line as you will be allowed to cast your ballot.
  • Only City of Charlotte residents are eligible to vote in the Charlotte General Election. You can check your voter registration, precinct, and view a sample ballot at Meckboe.org.
  • On Election Day, you must vote at your assigned precinct.
  • North Carolina DOES NOT require voters to show identification documents at the polls. However, first-time voters may be required to show some form of ID (utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or other government document).

Charlotte is the second largest city in the U.S. without LGBTQ-inclusive non-discrimination protections. We know Charlotte needs a pro-equality council and mayor that will stand up for ALL Charlotteans. We believe in these candidates’ committment to LGBTQ equality and urge you to cast your vote for Lyles for mayor and Ajmera, Winston, Eiselt and Mitchell for council at-large

If you live in or near Charlotte and would like to join HRC volunteers in getting out the vote, contact HRC Regional Field Organizer, Hope Jackson at [email protected].

Paid for by Human Rights Campaign PAC. Not authorized by any candidate or candidate’s committee.
