Scottish Minister Mark McDonald Quits Over ‘Inappropriate Behaviour’

Scottish Minister Mark McDonald Quits Over ‘Inappropriate Behaviour’
A Scottish minister has resigned over past actions he said were “considered to be inappropriate”, it was announced on Saturday.

Mark McDonald, the SNP minister for childcare and early years, apologised “to anyone I have upset” as he stepped down from the role, the Press Association reports.

The MSP for Aberdeen Donside said previous behaviour he had thought “humorous or attempting to be friendly” might have made others uncomfortable.

It is understood the complaint is one of two made to the SNP about inappropriate behaviour, the second of which does not relate to a parliamentarian.

Earlier in the week First Minister and SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon had warned men in positions of power in the party to reflect on their behaviour as allegations of sexual harassment reached Holyrood.

In his resignation statement, McDonald, who was appointed a minister in May last year, said: “It has been brought to my attention that some of my previous actions have been considered to be inappropriate – where I have believed myself to have been merely humorous or attempting to be friendly, my behaviour might have made others uncomfortable or led them to question my intentions.

“My behaviour is entirely my responsibility and I apologise unreservedly to anyone I have upset or who might have found my behaviour inappropriate.

“In light of my position in government, I believe it would not be appropriate for me to continue to serve in my role in the Scottish Government at this time and I have tendered my resignation as a minister.

“I hope that in taking this step neither any particular woman or my family will be the focus of undue and unwarranted scrutiny.

“It has been an honour to serve in the Scottish Government and I will continue to serve my constituents in Aberdeen Donside to the best of my ability.”

Deputy First Minister John Swinney also warned men to examine their behaviour in a statement to parliament earlier this week.

A spokesman for the First Minister said: “Mark has taken the right action in apologising and recognising that in his current role it would be inappropriate for him to remain in government.

“He will continue to make a valuable contribution to parliament as the MSP for Aberdeen Donside. As the Deputy First Minister told parliament earlier in the week it is right that men take responsibility for their behaviour and it is to Mark’s credit that he has done so.”

A Scottish Government spokesman said McDonald tendered his resignation to the First Minister on Saturday.

He said: “The Education Secretary is responsible for all aspects of the education portfolio including those led by the minister for childcare and early years. The First Minister will appoint a new minister in due course.”

The claims of harassment in Scottish politics first emerged after human rights lawyer Aamer Anwar said women ranging from MSPs to interns had raised concerns about behaviour across the Scottish Parliament.

A confidential phone line was launched and an anonymised survey will be carried out to determine the extent of the problem at Holyrood, which said it was not dealing with any current cases.

Croydon Cat Killer ‘Could Have Killed Pet Rabbit In Harpenden And Mutilated Body’

Croydon Cat Killer ‘Could Have Killed Pet Rabbit In Harpenden And Mutilated Body’
A pet rabbit who was killed and his body mutilated could be the latest victim of the “Croydon cat killer”, police have said.

Lionhead rabbit Teddy’s dismembered body was discovered by his owners in their garden in The Cleave, Harpenden, earlier this week.

Police said that a link to the Croydon cat killer is being considered.

South Norwood Animal Rescue and Liberty (SNARL), believes that about 250 animals have been killed in similar circumstances since October 2015.

A statement from Teddy’s family posted on Facebook reads: “Teddy was one of a kind, a truly special rabbit.

“The nature of the attack on him is very distressing and feels very personal – that someone, somehow, climbed into our high-walled garden, killed and mutilated him and left him next to my daughter’s little pink Wendy house for us to find, is beyond comprehension.”

Teddy’s family warned pet owners across the UK to be vigilant and protect their pets.

The statement continued: “Everybody in the UK needs to be on high alert to protect their pets. We thought we were safe and I’m so very sad we were wrong.

“We need to remember all the pets who have fallen into the hands of the killer (or killers) and honour their memories by protecting the animals we love, all of us, wherever in the UK we are.”

Hertfordshire Police said that officers are investigating the death and appealing for information and witnesses.

The rabbit is believed to have been killed between 6pm on Monday, October 30 and 9.30am on Tuesday, October 31.

“Between these time, the Lionhead rabbit was mutilated and his body left in the rear garden,” police said.

The Metropolitan Police Service has launched Operation Takahe in a bid to trace the cat killer and postmortems have been carried out on some of the animals.

A £10,000 reward is currently being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the deaths and mutilations.

SNARL says that cats, rabbits and foxes have so far been targeted in Greater London, Surrey, Hampshire, Kent, Berkshire, Sussex, Manchester, West Midlands, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire, Northamptonshire and Buckinghamshire.

Anyone who has any further information that could assist Hertfordshire Police’s investigation is asked to call 101 quoting crime reference F2/17/2084.

Netflix Dumps Kevin Spacey

Netflix Kevin Spacey

The Netflix Kevin Spacey relationship is over. The network has cut its ties with the House of Cards actor amid an avalanche of sexual abuse and harassment allegations.

USA Today posted a statement from the network:

“Netflix will not be involved with any further production of House of Cards that includes Kevin Spacey. We will continue to work with (producer Media Rights Capital) during this hiatus time to evaluate our path forward as it relates to the show. We have also decided we will not be moving forward with the release of the film Gore, which was in post-production, starring and produced by Kevin Spacey.”

MRC’s statement said: “While we continue the ongoing investigation into the serious allegations concerning Kevin Spacey’s behavior on the set of House of Cards, he has been suspended, effective immediately. MRC, in partnership with Netflix, will continue to evaluate a creative path forward for the program during the hiatus.”

An allegation against Spacey by actor Anthony Rapp last week snowballed into an avalanche of similar allegations including filmmaker Tony Montana, who said that Spacey groped him in public in 2003, and the actor Roberto Cavazos.

That was followed by an as yet unnamed man who claimed Spacey raped him at 15, and 8 crew members on House of Cards who said they were harassed by Spacey as well as a London bartender who said Spacey flashed him and then tried to shut him up with an expensive watch.

Spacey was also dumped by his agency, CAA, and his publicist Polaris.

Jeremy Corbyn Amazes Gogglebox Viewers With Bizarre Passion For Coddled Eggs

Jeremy Corbyn Amazes Gogglebox Viewers With Bizarre Passion For Coddled Eggs
Jeremy Corbyn talks about how he makes ‘Coddled Eggs.’#Goggleboxpic.twitter.com/RSlQnZQeX7
Jeremy Corbyn’s highly-anticipated appearance on Gogglebox finally hit screens around Britain last night.

But to the surprise of many viewers of the show’s Stand Up To Cancer celebrity special, it was not social justice or Brexit which got the Labour leader riled up… but eggs.

Watching kitchen queen Nigella prepare Turkish eggs, Corbyn was literally on the edge of his seat as he criticised the celebrity chef’s technique.

“You don’t do egg whites that way,” he explained as she cracked an egg into a tea strainer. “No.”

The long-standing MP had W1A actress Jessica Hynes in hysterics as he rushed to tell her the correct way to split an egg.

“How long is this going to take?” Hynes asked, wiping away tears of laughter.

“A masterclass in egg poaching.”

But the 68-year-old’s sermon on how to cook an egg was far from over.

He then went on to give painstakingly-minute instructions on how to make the perfect “coddled egg” – even down to the best way to eat it.

However, despite his passion about his recipe, Corbyn was not convinced he could tempt Nigella to test it.

He told Hynes: “She would say: ‘You have done so much wrong there, you’re just really off it.’

“No, she wouldn’t be doing my coddled eggs, I’m sure.”

While Corbyn’s TV-watching partner looked like she had heard more than enough about the politician’s eggy passion, many viewers were far more enthusiastic:

Watching Jeremy Corbyn watching Nigella cooking eggs, while talking in some depth about how his are better, is pretty bizarre.
Please Jeremy, come and make me coddled eggs lol, then we can put the world to rights while we eat them.
