Emma Watson, Millie Bobby Brown & more wear their resistance at MTV Movie & TV Awards

During last night’s 2017 MTV Movie & TV Awards, Emma Watson, Millie Bobby Brown, Trevor Noah, and more award-winning celebrities joined the Together movement at the MTV Movie & TV Awards in a stance of intersectional solidarity by wearing the ampersand (&). You can find out more at glaad.org/together

The Together movement, initiated by GLAAD, resists the powers that seek to divide us and to stand in solidarity with marginalized communities who are under attack in the current social and political climate. The ampersand represents unity and support to these communities–including LGBTQ, Muslim, immigrant communities, communities of color, women, and more communities–because no one is just one identity and all of us are under attack.

Emma Watson donned the symbol of togetherness on her belt on the red carpet as she became the first ever winner of MTV’s gender-free “Best Actor in a Movie” award for her role as Belle in Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast. Her award was presented by Billions actor Asia Kate Dillon, who is the first non-binary actor cast in a major TV series.

Highlighting the essence of Together in her acceptance speech, Emma said of her award-winning role as Belle:

I think I am being given this award because of who Belle is and what she represents. The villagers in our fairy tale wanted to make Belle believe that the world is smaller than the way she saw it, with fewer opportunities for her—that her curiosity and passion for knowledge and her desire for more in life were grounds for alienation. I loved playing someone who didn’t listen to any of that. I’m so proud to be a part of a film that celebrates diversity, literacy, inclusion, joy, and love the way that this one does

13-year-old Millie Bobby Brown, who played Eleven in Netflix’s Stranger Things, had the symbol on, front and center, when she tearfully accepted for “Best Actor in a Show,” as her young co-stars including Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, and Gaten Matarazzo, also decked out in the “&” went on to accept the award for “Show of the Year.”

Mille, like Emma, also spoke of the importance of well-rounded characters with marginalized identities in her acceptance speech, as well, when she called Eleven “a badass female iconic character that I’ve got the honor to play.”

This united show of inclusive solidarity caught the eyes of leading media outlets, including Seventeen, The Wrap, Enterainment Tonight, and more that deemed the wearable statements an integral fashion staple.

Vanity Fair said of the Together movement symbol:

“The GLAAD ampersand has also been a fashion staple during awards season, having previously been seen on Sting at the 2017 Oscars. The symbol was created to represent unity, “showing solidarity and speaking up to resist forces that try to divide,” GLAAD president and C.E.O. Sarah Kate Ellis told Variety. “This movement’s presence on television, social media, and in everyday life will help form an unyielding bond of unity that cannot be ignored.”

In addition to the pervasive ampersand, the spirit of togetherness was celebrated throughout MTV Movie & TV Awards categories. “Best Kiss” went to Ashton Sanders and Jharrel Jerome from Moonlight, the widely-awarded coming of age story of queer Black men in Florida. Hidden Figures tells the true stories of Black women whose contributions to the U.S. space program were invaluable but mostly erased from history and the cultural narrative at large, which won “Best Fight Against the System.” Daniel Kaluuya earned the “Next Generation” award for his lead role in Get Out, the cinematic thriller that explores racism and acts of violence against the Black community. These are just a few of the many winners who amplified marginalized voices through TV & movies throughout the past year and represented the world in which we live.

GLAAD first introduced the ampersand pin during a solidarity rally in New York at the historic Stonewall Inn in February. The symbol has also been seen at the Academy Awards, the Independent Spirit Awards, and the GLAAD Media Awards.

GLAAD thanks everyone who displays solidarity with marignalized communities and people, and who stands for togetherness by wearing the “&,” be it on MTV’s stage or living it in their own personal lives. Together, #WeResist.

Chandler Massey Is Returning To ‘Days Of Our Lives’ as Will Horton, Who Was Killed Off in 2015

Chandler Massey and Freddie Smith (Will and Sonny) steamed it up in the shower on Days of Our Lives in 2013.

Fans have been clamoring for his return to “Days of Our Lives” for years, and were disheartened when it seemed like the chance to welcome him back was snuffed out completely when his character was killed off the show in 2015. However, an on-screen character death is officially not keeping Chandler Massey away from the NBC…

“Sometimes the nicest things in life are the most basic,” they explain. They suggest folks have a “period of famine”  – not only from food but also from material things and technology – in order to keep the mind fresh and the senses alert.
