Kellyanne Conway’s Greatest/Worst Hits Supercut Compilation : WATCH

Kellyanne Conway supercut

Courtesy of satirist video editor Vic Berger and Super Deluxe, we now have the playbook on Kellyanne Conway’s dodges, go-to cliches, and facial tics, if you have the stomach to watch. Berger spent the 2016 election putting out a series of viral videos, and now Conway gets her own special treatment.

Having achieved national prominence then as Trump’s campaign manager, with a series of media appearances in which she took a pass on every difficult question with “you’ll have to ask him that,” to the point where one wondered whether she’d ever spoken with her candidate, Conway then took on the role of White House counselor and frequent spokesperson with more of the same.

Most infamously, on the same day in which former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn later resigned in disgrace, Conway hit the television circuit telling anybody who would listen that he enjoyed the “full confidence of the president” and replying to any follow-up questions with “his statement speaks for itself.” (This left anybody watching to wonder why she’d bothered to appear at all.)

It seemed all she had to offer appeared to be forced smiles and jokey throwaway lines that she only she felt were “gotcha” moments that were actually equal parts infuriating and laughable. (No, pointing this out isn’t in and of itself “sexist” despite misguided attempts at false equivalence.) Now you can watch her particular blend of evasiveness and smarminess in all its (vain)glory:

gorsuch marriage equality

Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch frustrated Senator Al Franken this afternoon when Franken asked him about his views on marriage equality.

Franken brought up Gorsuch’s close friend Ken Mehlman, who as RNC Chairman in 2004 was a vocal opponent of same-sex marriage and worked to pass bans on it (and succeeded) in 11 states. Franken noted that Mehlman has since come out as gay and become an advocate for marriage equality.

Franken asked Gorsuch if his views on same-sex marriage have changed “if at all” since the 2004 election.

Gorsuch said that it’s “absolutely settled law” but added “there is ongoing litigation about its impact and its application right now” and said he could not share his personal views.

As on many other topics, Gorsuch mostly stonewalled until Franken got frustrated and moved on.

Earlier, Gorsuch was asked by Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) about the anti-gay views of his mentor at Oxford.

Gorsuch said one only need to look at his record to see his views.

Asked Durbin: “What about LGBTQ individuals?”

Gorsuch snapped back: “What about them? They’re people.”

“Senator, I’ve tried to treat each case and each person as a person, Gorsuch added, angrily, “not a ‘this kind of person,’ not a ‘that kind of person’ — a person. Equal justice under law. It is a radical promise in the history of mankind.”

When asked if that refers to sexual orientation,  Gorsuch snapped, “Senator, the Supreme Court of the United States has held that single-sex marriage is protected by the Constitution.”

California Sen. Toni Atkins Proposes Bill to Add Alternative Gender Marker for State IDs

California Sen. Toni Atkins Proposes Bill to Add Alternative Gender Marker for State IDs

A bill proposed in the California Senate would make California the first state in the country to allow non-binary residents – those who self-identify as neither male nor female – to choose an alternate gender marker on state-issued identity documents.

The bill, SB 179 – dubbed the Gender Recognition Act of 2017 – authored by state Senator Toni Atkins (D-San Diego), would also make it easier for transgender, intersex or non-binary Californians to obtain state identification documents that accurately reflect their gender.

“California is a national leader on LGBTQ rights,” Atkins said at a news conference when she announced the bill’s introduction. “The Gender Recognition Act is the next big step down a path that all others, eventually, will follow.”

In addition to creating a new gender marker, SB 179 removes several barriers that make it onerous for people seeking name- and gender-change court orders or seeking a gender change on birth certificates, driver’s licenses, and identity cards.

One of the most significant of those is the requirement of a physician’s sworn statement certifying the extent of medical treatment received by someone during their gender transition. Another is a requirement for a person seeking a gender-change or name-change court order to appear in court even if nobody has filed objections to their petition.

The bill also creates a process by which individuals younger than 18 can apply for a change in gender on their birth certificate.

“Showing our I.D. is a part of daily life – at stores when we use our credit card, when we order a drink at the bar, when we go through airport security, when we apply for a bank account, or when we apply for a job,” Atkins said. “And for someone who has an I.D. with a gender that doesn’t match their gender presentation, things can get difficult – everything from a delay in completing what should be a mundane task to outright harassment.”
