Three die in Berlin gay bathhouse fire

Three die in Berlin gay bathhouse fire

A fire at a gay sauna in Berlin, Germany has killed three people and injured one, emergency services said on Monday.

The blaze broke out late Sunday night at The Steam Works club, in the “narrow and winding” small private rooms, making the search by the fire department more difficult, Times Live reports.

Over 80 rescue workers were dispatched to the scene.

“It was a lot of work to break into each room and to check for victims,” a fire department spokesperson said.

The club in the central Schoeneberg district and is described as being “made up of saunas and common areas, as well as 60 small rooms, each with a bed inside, and is a well-known meeting place for Berlin’s gay scene.”

One victim, a 48-year-old man, suffered from smoke inhalation and was taken to the hospital. More than 25 people escaped the fire on their own and helped point first responders in the right direction.

The cause of the fire is still unknown, reports the Associated Press.

Gay Irishman Gavan Hennigan Sets Transatlantic Solo Rowing Record

Gay Irishman Gavan Hennigan Sets Transatlantic Solo Rowing Record

Gavan Hennigan, a gay Irishman and former alcoholic and heroin addict, last week set a new International Solo Row Course record completing a 3100 mile row across the Atlantic Ocean from the Canary Islands to Antigua.

Yesss! 49 days, 11hours and 37mins… a new Irish Record and a new International Course Record from la Gomera – Antigua #RowGavRow #twac2016 pic.twitter.com/AdFX3x81c8

— Gavan Hennigan (@soulogav) February 2, 2017

The Irish Mirror reports:

He bravely held off the challenge of a three man American team, to finish the race in third place. 30 minutes was all that separated the two boats after 49 days of relentless ocean rowing, in what was an historically close finish.

Upon arrival at Antigua, he raised the Irish Tricolour to salute the large crowd gathered to watch him complete the race.

Adds RTE:

The 35-year-old completed the 5,000km journey, crossing the line in Antigua, after 49 days, 11 hours, 37 minutes at sea.

He finished third overall in the 12-boat Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge.

He also becomes the fastest solo competitor in the history of the race. The fastest Irish man to make the East to West crossing previously was Sean McGowan who completed the crossing in 118 days in 2010.

Hennigan spoke to the Irish Times about his addiction issues and his sexual orientation in an interview last September when he was preparing for his solo row:

“I was afraid to admit I was gay, I had huge abandonment issues around my Dad’s behaviour and it was only when I hit rock bottom that I could look up and try to deal with it.”

Today, Hennigan is keen to speak out about his own experiences to make sure other young people don’t feel so lost.

“You know as a man it can be difficult: ‘here’s another fella with a good sob story’. But I just felt I did not fit in and I had so many anger issues. I don’t particularly identify as a gay role model but if one person can see that I have survived all that, it will be worth it.”

Said Hennigan upon completion of his row:

”I’m so proud to have done this. Not many Irish have attempted a Solo row across the Atlantic and I feel I’ve done it in style. I had so many messages of support. I’d get up some days and I’d be struggling but when I read the positivity in those notes and comments from complete strangers that would motivate me to get back on the oars and do it for them. To do it for Ireland. The last seven days have been relentless. At times, I’ve rowed up to 19 hours a day and yesterday when I woke up, I decided it was time to finish this. I’ve rowed for the past 14 hours straight. I gave that my all. This has been a life changing experience. I’ve experienced the beauty of the Atlantic sunsets and sunrises, the thrill of open ocean row boat surfing, the despair of driving headwinds and the joy of arriving back on land today. For the past 49 days I’ve had one single goal. To live life. I’ve embraced every minute and I’m so happy to be here finally. I’d like to thank Talisker and Atlantic campaigns for giving me the opportunity to make this journey. I’ll never forget it.”

48% of Millennials say they prefer to have sex before the first date, study finds

48% of Millennials say they prefer to have sex before the first date, study finds

More and more singles are cutting right to the chase by having sex first and, if that works out, following it up with a date, a new study has found.

5,500 single men and women from various different age groups participated in the survey conducted by Singles in America. Of those 5,500, 34% said they prefer to have sex before grabbing dinner or drinks. Millennials were the most likely age group to report this behavior, with 48% saying they liked to sample the goods first before committing to an actual date, which requires considerable more time, not to mention money.

“[Millennials] are very career oriented,” Helen Fisher, a biological anthropologist who helped develop the survey says, “so sex before the first date could be a sex interview, where they want to know if they want to spend time with this person.”

Sex therapist Kimberly Resnick agrees, saying that people, in general, don’t view sex as intimately as they once did.

“We used to think of sex as you crossed the line now you are in an intimate zone,” Anderson says, “but now sex is almost a given and it’s not the intimate part. The intimate part is getting to know someone and going on a date.”

But don’t go thinking people are only interested interested in getting their rocks off. Over 80% of respondents said they’re looking for love, and millennials, in particular, said they’re looking to get married, with 54% reporting that they hope to start a family, and 35% saying they felt pressured to tie the knot because that’s what their friends are doing.

Other interesting findings from the study:

  • Almost 70% of singles said they’re cool with polyamorous love, although only 6% reported actually having practiced polyamory.
  • 32% of men admitted to sending dick pics at some point in their lives. Interestingly, almost two-thirds of gay men said they’re not turned on by pictures of male genitalia.
  • People who identified as Republican were 48% more likely cheat on their partner, compared to Millennials, who were the most faithful respondents.

Kristen Stewart to Donald Trump: ‘I’m So Gay, Dude’: WATCH

Kristen Stewart to Donald Trump: ‘I’m So Gay, Dude’: WATCH

Kristen Stewart SNL

He’s tweeted about her on eleven separate occasions, including once—retweeted nearly 23,000 times—in which he says she cheated  “like a dog,” so actress Kristen Stewart finally responded in kind to Trump.

In her monologue for Saturday Night Live over the weekend, in an episode that would already draw much attention for its celebrated Melissa-McCarthy-as-Sean-Spicer sketch, Stewart pondered the Tweeter-in-Chief’s bygone obsession with her and then defiantly proclaimed her sexual identity:

Four years ago, I was dating this guy named Rob and we broke up and then we got back together and for some reason it made Donald Trump go insane. So, yeah that’s crazy, right? The president is not a huge fan of me, but that is so OK, and Donald, if you didn’t like me then, you’re really probably not going to like me now, ’cause I’m hosting SNL and I’m, like, so gay, dude.

The star of Twilight franchise fame had a high-profile on-again, off-again romance with co-star Robert Pattinson, although she has also dated women, including ex-girlfriend Alicia Cargile. She has previously declined to define her sexuality specifically, despite her openness about her same-sex relationships.

That made her her quip more than just a clever and effective one-liner. By embracing the identifier “gay,” even as a catch-all LGBTQ term, Stewart counted herself as a visible presence among the community, and in matter-of-fact fashion. The anti-Trump context is even more significant considering LBGT activists’ resistance to this administration and the havoc it has already wrought among other marginalized groups.
